Default Lost my engine after the track tonight..

Came out of a corner at the track and it started acting up - lost power and stalled out; I rolled onto the grass. Some smoke came out of the intake area when I opened the hood and after letting it sit for about 10 mins, I slowly got off the track. Let it sit for a bit and started the engine - it seemed fine at first, but started making rattly noise at 3k rpm. Few guys who seemed to know engines look at it and said I should be fine to get home, but half way back it started making extremely loud noise on the highway and stalled - I barely made it to the shoulder because my power steering went out, etc. Great fun. Had it towed to the shop and I don't think it even starts up now. How much is this gonna cost me?

Update: engine won't start. Shop says it'd be much cheaper to buy a used engine and swap it than to fix this one. I think they might be right. How much should I expect to pay for a used engine, and for labor to swap? Found used short block for $700 - should that do it?

Sucks. Engines are like 8K? I don't know.

Go for something else if you can, if its not covered under warranty.
Go for like an LS2, as someone did here. Do something UNIQUE!!!!

You can buy a used engine.

You can buy a built engine for around $8k IIRC.

Or you can buy from Nissan...

There is a member with a 2006 motor here: https://my350z.com/forum/engine/3850...-block-fs.html

$1000...

Also do a search at www.car-part.com for a motor locally... Here is what I found...

If the dealership finds out the car was raced, the warranty will be voided.

So what the hell happened to the engine?
Tell us what happened before what you will replace it with.

Wouldn't the warranty on an 03 be up by now anyway?

Any idea what caused the failure?

(I know you were "at the track" but I don't think hard driving, by itself, should kill a motor.)

Not really sure but it's been acting funny i.e. burning tons of oil for a long time..

better to find a full long block. that would save you more on labor than you spend on teh difference. labor should range from 1500 to 2000 for the swap.
