Default Best Bang for the buck

I was going through all of the mods and was trying to figure out which was the best for the money so I made this little chart . I don't have a lot of money to spend so I want to know if I should save my money for something big, or go ahead and buy something smaller.

I know that you can't add hp numbers like I did, but it's fun to think about it that way. I used an 18% drivetrain loss to calculate the crank to rwhp numbers or the other way around (rwhp to crank)

I was hoping that someone could speak to the accuracy of the numbers. If something is wrong, please let me know so that I can change the chart. If there is something that I left out, please also let me know.

Thanks.

Hmmm, real nice chart. I noticed that you are giving some more HP than others. That 20 HP for Crawford is at the redline, it is far less than that at peak HP. To be fair, you have to measure them at the spot of max HP at the peak or max HP above stock. For instance, at the peak, Crawford is like 9 HP and the ECU is like 7 HP.

I think cat pipes are more like 10 to 15 hp. Everyone that has put them on said they could definately feel the difference in power.

I like that chart too. It reminds me of something I would do in study hall when I was bored.

Dont forget the cost of installing those parts. Im sure adding a preprogrammed piggyback to the ECU is alot cheaper then installing a supercharger. 8-)

And how did you add up the HP to get your 2 modded G35Cs?

You forgot about all the labor costs to install everything.

What does that mean when they say 9 hp at peak and 20 at redline? Is it 9 or 20? Are the numbers for the rest of the items at peak?

I've changed the chart for anyone who wants to see.

I added the horsepower numbers to the stock to get the numbers for the g35. Like I said above, I know that it's not really accurate to add them that way, but I didn't know how else to do it. If they don't add up right I may have written my excel thing wrong.

As far as the installation goes, I'd like to try to do all the work myself. It may be a little optimistic, but I figure that I'd like to learn and you have to start somewhere.

So far it looks like I'll have to change my proposed car. The cat pipes look like the best for the money, then the supercharger, then the pullies.

I've also heard that the ecu might not do that much by itself, but if you add other mods it will make your car respond to them better.

uncg35c, the 9 HP is at the peak HP for the engine, like 287 for the stock engine. The 9 HP would be added to that. But the power curve drops off after that peak for the stock engine, while the Crawford stays up better and at the redline, the crawford is 20 HP above the stock line on a dyno graph.

Nice idea, looks good. You might be underestimating the cat pipes a bit, they are great additions for people who can, and don't take the environmental issues into account. As for the camshafts, depending on lift and duration, they have a much higher range of power.

Really, your chart shows something that is about right. If you want to go with the cat pipes, of course that is easy HP. The SC is a lot of money, but a lot of power for that money. Pulleys are good, if you believe that nothing will happen to your engine with them. And for the bang for the buck, the safest mod is the Crawford, if you can stand the change in the strut bar and looks of the engine.
