Default Serious headache regarding oils

All of the oil threads good lord, my head is about to explode. My car is up on jackstands and i'm going to change my oil tomorrow morning so if anyone wants to convince me other wise let me know.

5w-30 Euro Formula Castrol syntec
Purolator (spell) filter

2003 350z NA

And Resolute, god damn you know your **** LOL

EDIT:

BEST POST EVER...

"I hate to correct you Vo, but there hasn't been a UOA on M1 0W-30. I think you meant M1 0W-40. As far as that oil is concerned, based on the average results of Mobil1 oils that have been tested, the M1 0W-40 looks to be the best of the bunch. It is a good oil with average to better than average results for most of the wear metals, and has done well for guys who track their cars or are FI.

That being said, the best performing of the oils in regards to low wear metals and shear stability for the mileage, (and only counting those with multiple test samples) would be German Castrol 0W-30, Shell Rotella 5W-40, Schaeffer's 5W-30, and PP 10W-30. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Shell or GC for anyone doing track days, and the Shell has been an excellent oil for the FI guys, along with the M1 0W-40.

Will"

What is there to convince? As long as you're using a name-brand, quality oil, no matter what you put in you'll be fine. It's more important to change regularly than to worry about brand A vs B vs C.

Thanks Dave. First post edited with info from Will that will save newbies like me from going nuts. Combine that with some common sense that the above poster has provided and I think i'll be able to get some sleep.

Update:

Changed oil today with European Catrol Syntec 0w-30. Night and day difference for me (previous oil was black). Throttle response and car picks up way stronger. I swear by this product from now on. (6.99 a qt @ autozone)

there's no way that you can feel the difference in performance by changing your oil........you must have one very sensitive butt dyno/

and when you go to change your "Euro" Castol in 3k-5k miles, it will be black too - oil does that

you told yourself the car was quicker..the oil had nothing to do with it unless you had previously been running Aunt Jamima's

This is the only Oil I will use as it has the most "ZINK" of any oil on the market today. Since GM has stopped making their additive this is the way to go.

Interesting article on oils for Porsche but relevant to all performance engines.

+1. Resolute(Will) is pretty good with oil evalutations. I trusted his judgement and have been running the Euro weight for some time now. This combined with a K&N filter. I haven't had a chance to change out the oil yet since I rarely drive the Z. I converted to the Euro formula around August 2007, I believe, and still haven't put enough miles for an oil change...

BTW, your car is not faster with the new oil, maybe runs a bit smoother. It's more of an enthusiasm effect that makes it seem faster...

I have tried those oil!!
Nothing proven but i feel engine and heard it..

German Castro syntetic 10w30 $36: Didn't feel any special difference
Mobil 1 syntetic 10w30 $26: didn't feel anything special
Pennzoil Syntetic 10w30 $18: felt motor more smooth and quieter

I really didn't read that pennzoil was the best, people on the forum seemed like Amsoil or royal purple or german castro, but i don't know... Only reason i tried pennzoil was b/c cheap $18 syntetic. And seems like my motor likes it!!! I think i am gonna go with pennzoil syntetic from now on. My two cent!!! just use any syntetic and you will befine. Make sure you use good filter though!!!

I honestly cannot believe you are trying to pick an oil by "feel" Oil testing will tell you everything you need to know as to how your engine is responding to any oil..
