Anyone install their own LSD? How hard is it?
I do most of my own stuff. I did everything on my Z myself so far (accept the Flyweel) including the S-Tunes. I wonder how hard the Cusco LSD would be if I had everything on hand that I needed. Any info is appreciated?

Call Doug... but I'm sure the conversation will go a bit like... "uhhhh haha... good luck!".
It can be done, but you're going to wish you paid someone to do it.

I would strongly recommend having a shop that rebuilds diffs or does frequent high performance tranny work do the swap..should not cost you more than $300 tops. While the physcial install is quite easy, it does require that you get the spacing of the diff exactly right, or else you risk burning it up in very short order

Whoa, I looked at the shop manuel on this and said to myself "awww heck no, nooooooo way". I don't have all those special tools, nor the expertise I see should be needed for such a operation. I'm siting on a stock LSD to install in my sedan. Performance Nissan quoted me $530 to install, local dealer (330 miles closer than Performance Nissan) Quoted me $730.
Can I trust a shop other than Nissan or Infiniti to do this? I live in a small town to.

No way would I suggest you try something like that yourself.
Let a VERY reputable shop put it in for you. Installing it incorrectly will ruin the differential and potentially your transmission as well.

I just installed a slip in diff in my eclipse. I am sure its harder to drop the trans in the 350, I don't think I would take on a project like this on my Z.
In the eclipse it was simple. I was installing a new motor so I already had the trans out. I removed the bellhousing from the case and removed the diff. Install SID and diff pin safing brackets and then reinstall the diff. Then i put the bell housing back on and used a screw driver to get the pins to line up with the bell house and it droped right back on. The trans in a 350 is a lot different (rear wheel drive) If you got big onions and another car to drive i say go for it!!

$530 to $730 seems *way* too high. That is in the neighborhood of 10+ hours labor at $60/hr.. The Diff on the 350 "looks" like any other rear wheel drive car after glancing through the FSM. I would think no more that 2 hours....Comments.

What i normally do on other cars (and on my Z once my Kaaz diff shows up this week) is remove the differential housing from the car, and then take the whole housing and the new diff to a local diff specialist i know. I tell them to replace the old diff with the new one, and make sure you have new bearings!!! They generally only charge from 130-150 bucks to take the housing apart and set the backlash and runout on the gears with the new diff in.

You know, you guys are right. I just read through the shop manual again and screw it. I am just gonna pay Performance Nissan (Jeff is the man!!) to do it.

Sounds fair to me. Maybe install next Thurs? Anyone want to buy a stock viscous LSD. $200 shipped. PM me.
Jeff, hopefully you will have some of those engine mods in by then so I can try it out. I am gonna have to buy another car pretty soon as my Z is becoming more and more racecar. How soon til those Titan trucks come out?

Well, the LSD is now officially ordered. Should be here in 4 or 5 days. I have so much I am going to have to get done to my car by Oct 25th. I have a feeling I will be working on it up unitl the last day.
Hey, so what kind of diff oil do I need to run with this thing (Cusco Type RS 1.5 way)?
