First thing, I have a Frontier, VQ40, 2 wheel drive, 6spd manual, and could use some advice and input. If you guys don't mind me asking, with your stock gears what speeds are you redlining in 3rd & 4th gear? And your 4.08's? I have also been considering gears for my 6m Frontier, but most people on that forum say I shouldn't do it. However most of those guys are into 4 x 4's, and I'm the exception, being into performance. I have 3.54 gears stock. With stock tires I redline in 3rd about 90mph & 4th about 125mph. With only bolt-ons my best so far is a 14.37 @ 95.72 at the track. With a few mods since then, I should be a few tenths better now. I also have severe tirespin, but am fixing that soon with a set of ET streets. I will be installing a Trutrac limited slip soon and could add 4.10 gears for about another $250. What do you guys think, stay with the 3.54 or go with the 4.10's??? The only other factor to note is the Et streets I'm getting are slightly shorter too, by about 8%. Also as I note I only go to the track 2-3 times a year, so I guess the most important place to consider gears for would be street use. Though some nice track times would be pretty cool too. So help a fellow VQ owner out with some input please.

Why?! Its a Fronty! If you wanted a drag machine you should have bought something else!

I have an '08 CC Storm Grey. Its an Auto. Those who install 4.08's on a Fronty are usually lifted with 33-35" tires.

If you looking for performance on your Fronty just have it UpRev tuned, get some JBA headers, HFC's, CAI and a good exhaust system. With any luck you will be in the 255-265 Whp area.

Stillen has a Supercharger for the VQ40. I haven't choosen to sink any cash into the Fronty for Mods yet! I may start this coming year. I can't justify throwing cash at it unless I can get it to 300 whp. So I'd rather Boost it.

Yes its a Frontier. I like trucks. Didn't want a Z(no offense). Somebody could also simply ask you why bother with a Z, just get a GTR or don't bother. Get my point. Everybody has his own taste in vehicles, I just happen to like trucks. And a VQ40 in a 6spd Frontier is no slouch. My 1/4 times may not show my power compared to most Z times, but keep in mind my truck weighs 4100lbs. I am putting out 263whp & 286ftlbs on a dynojet. And remember a VQ35 vs Vq40 has the hp & tq #'s flipped. So an average of 274.5 to the wheels isn't too bad for bolt-ons only.
My mods so far---Uprev tuned, Hiflow primary cats, 2nd's deleted,OBX Headers, dual magnaflows, x-pipe, Intake manifold spacer, Underdrive Pulley, Volant CAI. My total mod investment so far is appx $2000, keeping in mind I did all the work my self. So 14.3 in the 1/4 with a 4100lb truck is pretty respectable I think. Plus I'm pretty confident when I get my ET streets in a week or so, I will be in the 14.0-14.1 range. My 14.3 was severely traction hampered. Also as a note, Stillen SC sucks for frontiers. Bad! I put out just as good of numbers NA.
And thanks for commenting lakeside. No offense intended. Generally any thing that applies to a 6spd VQ35 350Z should apply to a 6spd VQ40 Frontier. At least in concept anyway. Thanks in advance for any more input.

No offense taken brother! I luv my fronty. Torq/HP is upside down due to the VQ40 being a stroker. I enjoy the Torque.

The only reason why I have a Z is that for me I have always enjoyed them. I could have bought a GTR which would have been Red But then I wouldn't have the Fronty to pull my Skis, boat and take me skiing & snowboarding in the winter. I would never allow my Nismo to see SALT or winter conditions.

So far I enjoy Modding the Niz. It is alot cheaper to Mod a Fronty being that you can do all the work without a lift involved. Some Jack stands and your all set.

I plan to do the same mods as you but with a differant exhaust system & headers. But for me I'll enjoy the extra HP and TQ for pulling.

I wish I could take the Fronty offroading!!! Miss my Jeep Unlimited The Frontys turning radius and for me being a Crew Cab its length makes it impossible to go down the trails I use to 4x4...... But I can Tow more weight and stop alot better then a Jeep. lol

Thanks. I too like the ability to carry 1600lbs, tow a boat or whatever, then on top of that head to a track and run low 14's(maybe high 13's soon) out of a V6 p/u. It's just cool to me. Plus I just like the looks of trucks. And Frontiers give you the sport car feel(sorta) with the 6spd & VQ40 engine, but also has great working ability.

Are you getting the cooler or just the finned cover? The nismo cooler is major $$$ and probably overkill for atb lsd.

Everything you listed is total win.

Even if it takes you a while to save for, doing it the right way and with the best parts will be much more rewarding, trust me.

I would also recommend getting what is included with the Z1 Performance kits they sell with the 4.08's. Pm them for more info on this... but highly recommended. (kit #2 i believe is best)

EDIT: For more info on kit #2, read OP here: https://my350z.com/forum/drivetrain/...-in-stock.html

So has ANYONE did 3.9 or 4.08 with Nitrous?

Hotrods do it? Why cant we?? I think the car would be just plain sick! Maybe 3.7 gears?

Is your goal 1/4 mile oriented or just for fun on the street? If you are looking for optimal 1/4 mile time..........3.7 is about all you can do before having to worry about shifting into 5th (not desirable). If you want a cheaper solution you can always run a shorter tire.

Street usage only. Not really concerned about drag times.
