a better question would be why bother

to do it with a utec on a revup, you'll need to use the TXS Map Sensor in conjunction with the MAF.

leave your rev limiter exactly where it is

Won't make power after 7000? Not even 7200rpm?

It may not make power past 7000 rpms but the power wont just drop off. I have my rev limiter set at 8500. I shift at 8000 rpms in 1st and 2nd gear, 3rd gear i shift around 7400. It keeps the car in the power band. This is with mild cams and a low compression engine. I knocked over a half second off my 1/4 mile time doing this.

But you have cams and he doesn't. On stock cams, it's a waste of energy

Compression does not affect the relative power curves by much. The difference between 9:1 and 10.3:1, assuming pump gas, is not going to be a tremendous amount assuming both cars are remapped

As for mild cams, that is a very relative term. Yours are far more aggressive than stock, which is the benchmark for the OP

I understand your argument. But raising the rev limiter also helps from running up against it. I would raise it to 7200 rpms and still shift at 7000, then you have the extra 200 rpms to keep you from hitting the fuel cut. The maxima guys shift stock engines at 7500-8000 rpms. But if you want OEM reliable performance then don't touch it.

I had a utec on a my revup as far as I know you can not change the rev limiter on it, at least it couldn't when I had it. They may have updated it. But for a revup utec is not so good. Get uprev and remap your stock cams.

But are Maxima guys making power at that rpm, or are they just shifting them there? If not making power, how far of a sweep is there between peak hp and shift point? 7200 I agree is a sensible level. Taking it much above 6800-7000 or so assuming stock exhaust manifold is going to be good for noise, but not much else. Not to mention with standard revup cams, he is already trading a smidge of top end power for a fatter mid range with the inclusion of a non revup middle manifold section

No they are not making power up there, as far as I know. But you get a few extra rpms to play with, without bouncing the limiter. I don't shift at 8500 haha. Can't really let people drive my car now. Afraid they may blow it up with no limiter on it hahaha. I wish I could afford bigger cams, to run it up too 8500 making power.

Dark, with the 4.083 gears man, I'd say kick the rev-limiter to 7400 RPMS. I have the gears; they're awesome but would benefit even more from a higher rev-limiter. If you're planning to stick to the OEM gears, stay at 7k.

Even if torque is decreasing at high rpms, you can still benefit from higher revs because of the prolonged torque multiplication of the lower gear ratio. It's the torque at the wheels that matter, not engine torque.

+1 to UpRev Osiris reflash
-1 to the UTEC
