Throttlebody coolant.
Close it and throttlebody gets no coolant (or extra heat).
Open it and throttlebody gets warmed up.
If you can drive the car and notice a difference back to back I congratulate you.

Description from website (http://www.motordyneengineering.com/...roducts_id=8):
Iso Thermal upgrade with Aramid gasket and Coolant Control Valve Motordyne Iso Thermal is the most comprehensive plenum thermal management system available. The upgrade will reduce heat transfer into the upper and lower plenum assembly. This helps to reduce power loss as the engine becomes heat soaked. Compatible with any type of plenum stock or modified. Recommended for warm climates generally above 45 ° F. When ordering Iso Thermal for an existing Motordyne spacer, please specify your spacer size in the comment window of the check out page. Note: You do not need this upgrade if you are also purchasing a Iso Thermal or Copper Iso Thermal plenum spacer
(http://www.motordyneengineering.com/...&products_id=2)
All Motordyne Iso Thermal systems keep your upper and lower plenum cooler without the risk of throttle body freezing when driving in cold weather.

IIRC, the slot in the screw shows the direction of the opening in the ball valve. If you align the slot with the unit, it's open, if you align it across the unit, it's closed.

Double check me with the instructions from th eMotordyne website.
BTW - I leave mine closed all the time.

I installed it with my plenum spacer, it does make a difference heat wise on the plenum, I could not tell a difference in power though.

if the switch runs parallel to the valve, it's open. Perpendicular, it's closed. Mine has stayed closed since I put it in, 2 years ago.
