Default 2nd gear notchy feel & linkage noise

I get a notchy feeling when going into second gear I gotta pull it little harded into place sometimes could this be a shifter alignment issue? Also going into second gear I also hear shifter linkage noise from under the car. I'm hoping all I gotta do is pop off the boot and make sure everything is tight & for the shifter linkage some all purpose grease.

Thanks

I'm having the same issue. Sometimes it goes into 2nd smoothly, most of the time it makes a 'clunk' noise and has a notchy feel. I'd really like to hear a possible cause for this before I head into the dealer so I know what I'm working with...

i have a hard time going into second sometimes when the car is just starting up.. what i do is instead of going straight from 1 to 2nd gear.. i go from 1.. then shift towards neutral.. then into second.. i dont go all the way to neutral though.. just move the shifter towards N and then down into second.. hope that helps.. =)

I just bought a 2008 350z with 10k miles and sometimes it has a linkage noise going from 1st to 2nd.

This is relatively normal for the Z transmission. I wouldn't worry about it, the notchyness will occur in 2nd the most from my experiance... seems pretty random as well, but obviously more so when the car is cold.

Thanks man this works now I can drive with no one looking at me strange plus this takes care of the shift linkage noise.

Noise should not be audiable outside the cabin, at all, and it's more something you feel than you hear... if it's that loud, i'm going to say it's a problem.

For daily driving i usually skip shift to 3rd. In my mind it saves on the clutch and tranny.

I started to experience this issue in these couple of days, specially when the car is cold. I got 12,255 miles now and I hope that this is normal in our Z.

I've had my transmission replaced 4 times, and all of them did this.
