Gas light on WITH gas
At startup occasionally the gas light will be ON and the needle will be at empty even though i have over half a tank. DTE will be flashing but showing a high (accurate) number. Ive read through many "fuel sending unit" threads, is this a different symptom of the same problem? After driving for a few minutes the gas needle slowly goes up to the right level. It never used to do this and its happening more frequently lately. Anybody had this problem??

DUDE Im glad I found this post I have been trying to find owners that have the same problem as me. You fuel gauge will just get worst especially when its below the half and the reason that is because our cars have 2 fuel sending units and one of them is bad the one that measures from E-1/2 tank. Have you noticed that when its above the 1/2 it works great and when it falls below it start tripping. I took mine to the dealer and the idiots could not find what was wrong with it when I told them what was wrong but because the car didn't do that when the had it. They didn't fix it so I called Nissan care and they told me that if enough people report the same problem they might issues and recall for this problem to our Z's. Other Nissan car have this problem already reported to them but not ours yet. SO Call NISSAN CARE @1-800-647-7261 lets get this on recall when you call make a big deal about it and hopefully more people will call I have posting ever where about this..

Will do vics. So as suspected this IS another sending unit failure? Mine is an 2004 long past warranty so whats the cost on the item that needs replacement? OEM or aftermarket? I'll be doing the install myself.Thnx!

I would tell you to go OEM so you can save your self some problems. They run about 100.00 per. sending unit from the dealer. But Call nissan care maybe you can get it for free.
