Default Which year model best for my goals?

Hi all, new to the forums and had a quick question. I drive an S13 coupe and I'm about to begin swapping it for a VQ35 engine. I have tried to do some searching to see which year model engine/transmission are best to go with but I get conflicting answers.

The engine will be built and turbocharged so internal strength won't really matter but I've been told some different things about transmissions. A local told me that the 03-04 transmission were more prone to blowing up at higher hp levels (His Z has 606whp). Is this true? Would I be better off getting an 05+ model?

I plan to have around a pretty decent amount of power in the end and I'm sure most stock transmissions wouldn't last anyways but I figured I'd ask before I made my purchase.

All the Z trannys have proven themselves to well over 600rwhp. A few over the 1000rwhp mark as well. The synchros are weak but those can break on bone stock cars as well.

The best of the trannies are those for the DE engine cars with serial #'s ending in CD009. These are the last revision Nissan did. The trans from the 07-08 cars will not work unless you're also using an 07-08 engine.

Engine wise, building it anyway, any 03-06 will work fine. 06 would be the ideal due to the dual cam phasing, though you also then need an ecu that can adjust those parameters as well. 03-04's are basically the same (some minor ancillary differences), as well as 05 non track models (track models in 05 got the revup engine, and then the revup was standard on all 06's)

I feel the love. That's what I like about this site. All the people who really want to help point others in the right direction.

And even better, when a statement that someone disagrees with is posted, the fact-based manner in which we debate the merits of each others opinions.

Flame away boys!
