Default Free 5 years of oil changes

No you're not getting free oil changes, this is my experience with my dealer on this issue.

I aasumed (Never assume) I received 5 years of free oil changes.

Well, long story short, I paid the dealer $728 for 5 years of oil changes.

Lets do the math>>> $728 divided by 20 oil changes= $36.40 an oil change is what I paid those bast#$%ds.

Anyway there's a happy ending to this Maint Plus agreement, its is cancelable. So I canceled it today and I am getting $635 towards my loan.

This is what stumps me. I only have 1501 miles and I only used 1 oil change, however Nissan or whoever sold me the agreement is pro-rating this and I was charged $93 for my first oil change.

What a bunch of crap. So beware of those oil changes and extended warranty contracts. Read the fine print!!!!!!!

Guess its kinda like some stores charge when you bring an item back, RE-STOCKING FEE'S.

Okay, I am done fuming.

The good thing is, now I can change my own oil, and use Mobil-1 Syn and not that OEM oil. and save some $$$$$$$$$.

So my next question is this. Come Dec/Jan, I am changing my oil myself, is their a thread here on the exact tools, ect.. I heard the filter was a pain in the a$$,

Can I put synthetic oil at under 2000 miles?

Also, do you recommend the double guard oil filter or will a regular Fram filter do?

Thanks.

yup I took my first free oil change, and went to synthetic after that. dealers always make money on anything they sell. keep that in mind.

things you need:

- oil filter wrench
- regular mineral oil (I reccommend Mobil 1)
- new oil filter (I *highly* reccomend a Mobil 1 M-104)

the fram oil filters are garbage. Get the Mobil 1 M-104.

there are other details around the forum about how to change the oil.

I changed mine at 500 and 1000 miles. I intend to change again at 3000, and then every 3000 miles after.

Don't switch to synthetic until you hit around 10,000 miles.

The theory is that engines actually do need some friction during break in to get the cylnders and rings to perfectly mate. Sythentic oil is so good at reducing friction that it impedes the break in process, making it take far longer if it all. I am also waiting 10k to switch my G to synthetic. It does still seem at 8200 miles that the engine continues to get torqueier. That makes me think that the rings are still bedding in more. Might be nearly over though as my oil at last check was still quite clean signifing low blow by.

I paid ~$60 + tax for 6 oil changes @ Star Nissan in Chicago,

that averages ~$10 per change with OEM filter + great service!

I just got my oil changed and asked specifically for Mobil !. Now I asked for 5w/30 but they put in 10w/30. Dont think it should matter that much. I put regular oil on my first oil change at 1200 miles and then synthetic for my latest 2, every 3000 miles
