As much as it pains me, I would say if you don't have the ability to finish the swap yourself you should go back to stock. Swaps like this will always have a number of little things that need to be fixed after the car is up and running. If you don't have the ability to do that yourself it will just be a long drawn out process of spending more money and time.
One area that I would be worried about, and maybe I am wrong, is the driveshaft angle. It doesn't sound like you have the driveshaft in. In my opinion, the only correct way to do a swap like this without a kit is to mount the engine, attach the tranny to the engine and get a driveshaft length. Once you have the drive shaft you can install everything and start measuring the angles to make sure they are the same at each end of the driveshaft. Once you have the entire setup aligned you can make your transmission mounts. I got my setup within .1 degrees and made my transmission mount such that I could weld the cross piece in on the car while everything was aligned. If not done properly, you can get some bad vibration.
Again, he may have done it correctly, but judging by the rest of his work I would guess that he didn't go through this process.

I have to wait until my friends move into their new shop before we can start seeing how much it's going to be to fix it and get everything done using the VH, but until then I'm gonna just poke around the FS section for some VQ's. Or if anyone is interested in picking up the torch and doing this swap, I'll gladly trade everything I have for the engine, tranny and all along with some money on top.
As much as it hurts to say, I was thinking the exact same thing. As for the drive shaft, he said the engine is crooked by a half inch or so but I'd have to double check.

Exactly, that's what I was thinking. Craig fed me some "no that's fine because it has a .5% wiggle room blah blah" ********, second he started saying that I realized he didn't know what he was talking about at all. If I stick with the VH45 we've already established we're going to have to start from the ground up and redo the entire thing.
I just read most of this thread and none of this makes any sense IMO. If this ever comes to fruition (and I hope it does) I would like to see it but if it doesn't I wouldn't be surprised.

No real update to report other than the Z is sitting in my driveway at the current point in time with hundreds of things missing off of it thanks to sir Craig ****s-alotta-****-up. Been focusing on getting my S13 running so that I'll actually have a car to drive. Would have been done and driving today but the company I bought my new top and bottom end gasket kit for my SR20 from sent me the wrong gaskets, so I have to wait for the right ones to show up now. After the S13 is running then my friends (who I should have gone with from the beginning) at Smoke 'Em Motorsports are going to take the Z in and basically redo everything since the last guy did nothing but paint and get rid of things I need (If anyone has an extra '05 harness, please let me know; we need one...).
Only real update I can give you is that yeah, the S13 is almost running. Just waiting on the two intake gaskets that I need.

Got everything else in it, including the Momo Monte Carlo steering wheel I scored off an untouched Porsche 924 in a junkyard for $9, my old Corbeau seats, my Corbeau 5-point harness, and roll bar (soon to be D1-spec cage).

The S13's new wheels have also come in, going to be painted white since I'm going to be painting the car purple.

And my Z has been reduced to this until the S13 is running and we start attempting to fix it... sitting in the driveway collecting small dents from the damn children next door playing basketball.

Sorry for reviving a super long-dead thread, but I'm wondering about doing this same swap in my '04 touring Z. So far from my research, it'd be the most cost effective long-term engine swap that I can drift stock until I'm ready to turbo it, with the least amount of issues. Did you ever complete this swap? If so, what all exactly do I need to purchase? I know the engine, z32 transmission, custom driveshaft, ecu/harness, radiator, custom engine mounts, but what else? I'm trying to compile a full list of everything so I can get it done within the next year and a half.
