So after a long weekend of thinking about what the heck was up I have determined that it had to be my spark plug gap. Reading through my engine management manual they specify that the spark plug gap be .022" for anything over 10psi or 12:1 compression ratio. My car was running at about .036" gap and I run just over 12.5:1 compression.
My car was struggling a bit on the top end like misfire and all my logs show all engine parameters to be in great working order. However, based on Electromotive's explanation of the spark plug gap, I am thinking I was seeing some weird ignition problem with blowout or arcing. Since then I have gapped the plugs at .022" and I am going to put the Mickey Thompson's on and do some good street tuning.
I've come to realize though that my TH400 is an absolute power hog and is running at about 25% parasitic loss . The motor is consuming in the 530-560 crank horsepower range worth of fuel but I bet it only puts down in the low 400whp range. Once I am done street tuning I am going to take it to the track and see what it does. Maybe go back to the dyno some time after that.
sob, i need an automatic. I run those exact tires and can't hook for crap with my os giken twin disk.
What do you have the camber on the rear set to? any other ninja tricks to get them to hook or is it just that nice auto trans?
Camber is set to OEM specs right now. I found 16-17 psi was the sweet spot for tire pressure to dead hook on my car. The biggest benefit for me was being able to preloaded the drivetrain.
523hp at 13psi but i'm at 17psi now. I also found best traction was 17-18psi but i've never had "good" traction. I usually spin all the way through first with my fastest 60' at 1.9. Usually right at 2 seconds which is sad.
A set of Hoosier drag radials are on their way for my 15" drag wheels! Also managed to find a way to get more brake bias to the rear so I can launch at a higher rpm! Hoping to hit the track one more time this year and break into the 10's and hopefully pull the fastest 60' on the overall list!
Hoosiers are mounted and on the car. Also modified the brake system so now I can launch at 3,200 if need be! 1.4xx 60's here I come! Should have more word on the spark issue tomorrow.
