Default What tool do you use for the oil filter?

i usually buy these oil filter removal tools from auto zone they are the metal ones that attach to a socket wrench, but this time when i bought one it kept slipping and when i went back to auto zone to exchange they said it didnt work with the nissan filters. So was just wondering where people bought theirs from? thanks

you can't open it with your hands? i lube my oil filter gasket with new oil as well, i think it makes taking it off easier on the next oil change.

hammer a screw driver through the middle of it and spin it right off!!!

just kidding, although I did have to do that to my jeep once. thanks to the strong jiffy guys.

if you struggle with taking if off all the time and cant get one of those universal round clamps to work, start buyin the k&n oil filter, it comes with like a hex bolt on the end for super easy removal.

I usually use the oil filter pliers, it destroys the filter but gets the job done.

You should always lube the new o-ring with oil. I never really crank down that hard on my filters when installing them. But if you are having a hard time with it, grab a pair of water pump pliers and bite onto it. Like sportbiketed said, don't be afraid to destroy it to get it off; it's going in the trash either way.

These oil filters are so small that a medium size channel lock wrench works great. My oil filter wrench is actually too big to get a decent grip on the filter.

This is what I use it called a Redneck Oil Filter remover!!!! haha But seriously it shouldn't be on so tight that you have a hard time getting it off...That why it's a good idea not to let anyone work on your car...The torque of bolts and in this case oil filters are set to your strength!

I use my right hand. When that doesn't work, I use this:

If it fits, it hasn't let me down yet

i have used screwdriver and hammer in the past, and it gets messy and ends up taking longer than having the proper tool. ive also tried those adjustuble straps/wrench/clamps and so far if i like the socket wrench piece the best, but the one at autozone didnt work unfortunately (had to stuff a paper towel in it to stop it from slipping). Another reason for the tool is i have a subaru as well and the filters are the same size as our z filters, so the tool would come in handy for both my cars if i can find one that works.
