Tranny grind every gear still unresolved help me
ok i posted a thread about 3 weeks ago, got deleted for title. anyways
heres the story...got motor replaced, tranny was dropped from engine and hung for at least 5 days...got new engine, and right from the get go the gears were grinding...
1. its every gear
2. clutch is getting fully pressed in ( just to rule out someone saying i dont know how to shift)
3. its not the grinding you get when your not fully pressing clutch, you can still go into the gear, but youll get the vibe, youll hear the sound as well.
4. only way to avoid is shifting under 3k or pushing clutch in letting rpms drop and going into gear slow.
5. sometimes when 1st and reverse when the clutch is pressed and im trying to get going and tapping the gas rather than just holding it down (hope you guys what i mean) the tranny will get like stuck and stay in a grinding "mode" if you will, until i let go of the clutch. this only happens when starting out whether in 1,2, or reverse and only when tapping the gas.
6. i feel like gear placement is different...5th and 6th dont feel as far upper right and lower right as before..they feel closer in...or maybe im overthinking..
7. tranny fluid was changed 200 miles ago to rule that out with mt90 85w-90 mt5 or w.e. the recommended is for the car i cant remember but i made sure 2344 times its the correct one so thats ruled out as well..
8. another member had same problem after engine replacement....if im not mistaken, he replaced clutch, slave cylinder, throwout bearing so those parts are ruled out as well...
i think thats it. please HELP OUT ME. my latest hunch has been pilot bearing...went on some vette forums guy had pretty much same problem and everyone was leaning towards pilot bearing...
thanks any help is appreciated

when i dropped my tranny out, and installed everything back in, i didn't align the shift plate correct and was grinding every gear to. then i removed the shift boot area again and just kept realigning it until its stopped. not sure if it will help your problem but it sounds similar to mine.

i really dont think my issue is a tranny oil issue....my transmission was completely fine! dropped the motor, got new one, and from the first shift in the new motor i was grinding

^you get alot of grinding with improper oil. alot of guys mix redline fluids i believe. i always used synthetic oils in factory weight such as the syntorq. i hate to say it, but you may need to remove the trans and check if everything is aligned properly.

Wasn't there a thread here a short time ago where the culprit was a damaged pilot bearing? If they messed it up during the replacement of the engine, it would explain the sudden onset of the problem and the fact that it affects every gear.

I had a hard time getting the transmission and engine to mate properly when I was reinstalling my engine after my build.... Had to wrestle with it for a while before it just decided to align and slide right together. But I must admit, it was tempting to use the bell housing bolts to snug the two together after I'd been fighting with it for half an hour or so - This is a major no-go. If your shop did this, chances are theres a misalignment and/or bearing damage. They probably wouldn't admit to doing it, but its worth a shot to ask them. Either way, they need to remove the trans again and inspect all the mating parts.

Damaged Pilot or wrong fluid. Gl4/Gl5 compatable fluid is not good for our cars. BTW RP oils are crap, well , good oil for race apps where its replaced every couple hundred miles.

Im leaning towards pilot bearing....and i got my motor dropped at nissan and the new one put on at a different shop....it cant be fluid, i had the right fluid prior to the royal purple and it was grinding

I know I'm 10 years late (almost literally) but what was the issue. I'm going through that right now I also changed the motor and used RP, I'm going to swap it for the redline mix but idk if it's going to fix it
