Are there any suggestions to keep the 10mm bolts provided from rusting? Should i just use those chrome caps from auto zone? Love my kit, still looks great!

Does installing a grounding kit void the car warranty?

Just a re-cap:

Warranty Issue: The dealer has to prove that a modification and/or aftermarket part is directly responsible for the failure that you are trying to have repaired under warranty.

If you are still concerned, remove the kit before bringing your Z in for service.

Any word on this, Gyula?

Are you serious??? No one reads this thread anymore. ;p

The grounding kit already has an option for a 6th and 7th wire!

The 6th wire IS and extra chassis ground that goes to the driver side factory ground.

The 7th wire was brought on by the G35 crowd which attaches to the tranny on the auto versions. They claim the trans ground improves shifting.

Question where to get parts?

Well, I'd like to try my hand at making my own grounding kit, but don't know where to get the wires, terminals, etc. Can someone point me in the right direction? Oh, I'm in Orange County.

Well, I got my grounding kit earlier this week. I put her in, took about 1 hour at most. It was really easy to do. Anyway, I got the Lemans Sunset kit, and to be honest, it's more ornage/red than the lemans, but I still like it. Also, I haven't really felt much difference in performance, it might be just a bit smoother, but that may just come from my imagination.

you can gets the parts from any car audio shop, but i would recommend buy the Z-Xtreme kit cimply because I think it'll look better.

The first kit I made looked like a joke compared to the Z-Xtreme kit.

Stainless Steel is actually more brittle as compared to regular steel. If i where you, go with grade 5 or even better grade 8 Zinc coated steel hardware (bolts). Trust me guys, stainless steel will break very easily if you tighten it too much. Yes, SS is stronger but it gives suddenly. In this application where most ppl dont have torque wrenches, you want regular steel bolts.

Default 6th wire info

I had the information, but have somehow lost it. Can someone please post the length of the "6th" wire for the grounding kit and where it connects? Thanks

Default My Grounding Kit and install problem

Well, I did some calling around and found an electronics store (Orvac) in Fullerton that had everything I needed. Ended up costing me right around $25.00 out the door for everything

15' of 4 Gauge (red) wire @ $0.50/ft = $7.50
12 Gold plated terminals @ $1.00/ea = $12.00
4' of Shrink wrap tubing @ $3.95 = $3.95
+tax

Here's my problem and I haven't seen it mentioned so I thought I'd bring it up for anyone else who does this install. When tightening the bolt into the rear-right (driver's side) of the plenum, I actually stripped out the threads in the hole of the plenum!! Luckily it was only the 10mm bolt and I alleviated the problem by simply using the bolt that is replaced with a 16mm bolt on the left side (holding down the wiring harness). I have read about people stripping the heads of bolts, but not the threads inside the holes in the Plenum. So for all you who are going to do this install... Don't Overtighten the bolts!!

Here's 4 pics of my wires and install. The red wires are opaque and flat kind of like jumper cable wires, but they look pretty good in my Super Black. What cha think? Oh, as far as being able to tell a difference after driving; well, I can't really tell much difference when driving. The idle is definitely smoother though. Maybe the ECU has to adjust itself? Haven't heard of having to reset it or anything so I doubt it's necessary.

The red wires are opaque and flat kind of like jumper cable... wires, I can't really tell much difference when driving.
All 4 ga wire are not created equal, especially welding cable or jumper cable. They need to be high purity copper and have a high thread count. Also not all terminal lugs are ideal for this purpose, gold plated or not. Could be the reason that you haven't noticed the difference in performance with your home-made wires. Sometimes spending a little more is worth it. The worst thing that might happen is that someone (not saying you) will make a poorly designed set of Hyper-Grounds, and because they don't notice the difference in performance, tell everyone that H-G systems don't work!
