Default Pilot/Throwout Stopped Making Noise???

Hello,

Whichever bearing spins when you push the clutch in (pilot right?) was going bad in my car, making a hell of a lot of noise.

Now suddenly, it's quiet, and everything feels fine.

Can I let it go until the clutch needs replacing?

I used to start my car in 2nd gear, but lately I've been using 1st. Could this have something to do with it?

Also the weather has been milder, and it really started acting up when it got cold out.

Bottom line, should I spend $700+ getting everything replaced, or can I wait until my clutch is bad.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

To be honest, why would you start in 2nd gear. That puts a lot of unnecessary stress on the clutch. Sure our cars have torque, but why would there be a first gear if we weren't supposed to use it. Get it checked out.

We should fix this right away. Wait a minute it is not broken. Never mind.

The throwout bearing is the one that spins. It's on the input shaft connected to the clutch fork.

If you mean start the car as in "start the engine" while the car is in 2nd gear verses 1st gear it has no effect. It doesn't matter what gear the trans is in when you push the clutch and start the car.

The stock pilot isn't a bearing, it's a bushing so it wouldn't be squeeking. It was probably the throw out bearing. if it had a piece of debris causing it to squeak then the debris might have come loose thus making it less noisy.

When it starts making more and more noise or grinding then you need to change the T/O bearing. Until then i wouldn't waste time pulling the transmission unless you are changing the clutch.

Thank you for the helpful reply without being sarcastic or plain rude. If I was on a slight downhill I used to skip first gear, but stopped doing that lately and wondered if it could have had an effect.

I was hoping this would be the case, I'm not going to worry about it until my clutch needs replacement which hopefully won't be for another year or so.

Both bearings are spinning when you push the clutch in, The pilot spins on the input shaft when the clutch is in, When it is engaged everything is moving at the same speed.
