Default when the FSM says CAUTION, pay attention

I was removing the timing chain tensioner and dropped the bolt into the timing chain cover. just like the FSM said not to do.

pulled the lower oil pan to see if it dropped that far. nope
had to do this to retrieve it.

biggest pain in the **** was breaking the crank pulley bolt loose. engine had no oil nor coolant so i wasnt about to put the breaker bar on the ground and jump the starter. AND we did not have an air compressor.....

/end rant

Don't worry. The air compressor did NOTHING for me when I had to get that sucker off.

^7ft breaker bar lmao. the ls1 crank pulley is torqued to 240 ft lbs, then you have to replace that bolt and torque to 30 ft lbs. that thing was a b1tch.

true story man. I went ahead and took this time to continue to tear down the block all the way. I was saving this project for march, but eh.

have the whole block out now, on an engine stand, pulling the heads off tonight

on my engine for my second build the crank pulley would not come off, I broke 3 breaker bars , no torque gun did the job

So I cut the pulley into 5 peaces until I was left with the round part around the crank and just cut the bolt off. the pulley came off and I unscrewed the bolt with chanel locks

Good god!!! that would be an opportune time to upgrade to a light weight underdrive pulley lol

OMG! Do not put on a "lightened" flywheel! It is sooooo bad for the engine! The engine has a natural harmonic and your engine belt driven accesories do not operate correctly while this vibration harmonics are being transmitted causing added stress to the crankshaft and will microweld the pulley to the crankshaft due to heat from the minute movements the pulley is doing... in extreme cases the crankshaft will shear off from the vibrations not being absorbed

Agreed the crankshaft flexes every time a piston fires, without a damper this is bad news. ATI makes performance dampers that are still 4 or so pounds lighter.

I don't see a problem with lightweight idler and alternator pulleys though...

I think what you meant to say was a lightened pulley and not flywheel.

lol. I knew what you meant.

I am still using the stock pulleys. just sent everything to the machine shop to have the rotating assembly balanced.
