Default FSM Recommended Shift points

I found this in the factory service manual that I have been reading. Here is the recommendation for shifting. Comments?

I wonder is shifting at 5K is faster than shifting at redline. I also wonder if it is for longevity of the motor.

I remember reading the original FSM, and for optimal fuel shifting points, they were well below 2000rpm. But this was back in mid-2002. Regardless, it was pretty entertaining to read...

Maybe they were writing that when they had plans for a diesel in the Z.

Shifting just after power peak seems like a pretty good idea.

Seems like if you shift higher, you'll make more power @ the higher rev in the next gear. Theoretically, it's a question of if the car makes more power @ redline than it does @ 4000 or whatever it drops down to???

That too would bring in variables like the Crawford that loves hovering at that redline

My car doesn't have a shift light,

12secZ it is adjustable in the "computer display" gauge. It is probably set to 7400 and will never light.

12secZ has an Auto, which has a gear indicator in place of the shiftlight (which is only on manuals).

That FSM info is not correct. For max acceleration you want to shif @ redline in 1,2, and 3. Not sure about the 4-5 or 5-6 shift though (I've calculated this and have posted a couple times showing the actual numbers).
