Default Am I being taken for a ride?

Without getting too lengthy, I have an 04 Z that has spun a bearing and Im ready to have the motor rebuilt, install a used APS turbo kit, a coolingmist kit, and dyno tune.

The car has been at a local shop (with a decent reputation / track record) since January. I had a short conversation with the guys there and they said bring it in and they would tackle it. This was on short notice and we never discussed a time frame. We worked up a parts list and quoted me for the rest of the labor etc. but the car has sat there untouched for 3 months.

I was never led to believe it would take this long, but every weekly phone call for the past 2 months is, "We had to stick you in the middle of the schedule and we're working on something that was ahead of you" or "We had to finish this GTR and we will get yours in next week."

Im tired of getting dicked around but I dont have very many options. Is this the way these things go sometimes or should I have the thing towed home....or to Dynosty...

If you haven't paid yet, take it to Dynosty! They will be up front with you on wait times (and in all fairness, they are in high demand and might not be any quicker). I can guarantee quality, honest work though.

Sounds solid. whatever you're paying them, double it.

if your in toledo i would definitely take it to dynosty. think the drive was around 7 or 8 hours iirc from elyria down to that area(been many years since i went last down to ky, tn, or ga) so toledo should be similar. then get a flight back, should be $200 or less

Same thing happened to me a few years. Long story short I had the motor picked up and shipped to another shop two weeks later the car was done. Like Nike Just Do It!

Default build time

+1 on that.....they all suck....will tell you 3 weeks when its 3 yrs.....I haven't sent my car to Dynosty yet but for my th2004r install, that's where it will go..if your original shop hasn't touch it yet and you let them get by this long, they are gonna keep jerking you around...go by, pick it up and GTF outa there asap...

OR else be like me 2 yrs in and still waitin'.....

People should start treating shops that do this like free storage facilities. Tell them your build and then just leave your car there. Pick it up months later and refuse to pay anything since no actual services were performed.

^I would seriously go and check on the 'progress' if any.

Like what others have said, take your Z to Dynosty.

Default RUN!

I would go by unannounced and see if they did in fact start on your car..if they didn't that's clue there..THEY LIED TO YOU...run, RUN with your car as fast as you can...its been 3 months and now and probably theyhave lied to your face...they WILL continue to do so if you let them....ask me how I know (GTM)....NEVER rely on what they say...go and see...take photos...been there done that with GTM long block (FU POS)!

sounds like the typical...we have this high profile more important car (GTR in your case) so your car is after. if your car was a gtr then they would have told you they are working on a bugatti.
3 weeks would have been my max wait before work started. take your money elsewhere since the guy with GTR can keep their business afloat.

so i had a chance to drive by today...its been another week since they said they'd get started. I had a peek through the fence and not only was my Z sitting there untouched, but I could swear they're trying to block it from view with a new STI and a big *** trailer.

So I have a message waiting on Dynosty's answering machine ...I just dont know how to get the car down there. I'll be towing the car out of where it is and back home and getting the parts that ive paid for, and the rest of the money back.

This sucks...what a waste of time. What do they possibly gain from doing this to people?

If its taken this long to even touch it, imagine how long the actual build is going to take?

Ive had this same debacle happen to me at a shop before. Dropped off my car for a swap and they dont touch it for weeks, everytime its a different excuse and a new completion date.

I dont mind waiting since I know theyre busy but why not just give me a decent estimate?

Had the tow truck on the way on monday...long story short, it stayed there and they pulled the motor and had it torn down to the crank in about 6 hours.

We found out the previous owner cracked the front timing cover and attempted to seal it on the inside...needless to say, that didnt hold up.

Im looking for a new crank now too. Mine is no good after the bearing went out.

So, now that they're into it, you're not taking it somewhere else?
