Default 370 motor in a 350?

Has anyone tried or know of someone who tried dropping a 370 motor into a 350? How different are the housings of the two? Is it even possible? Was talking to my buddy about it and got me wondering. I haven't read up on 370s much. Just curious.

It's a direct swap. Sub frame, harness, mounts, and even the transmission all hook up perfectly. The only thing you will need is a Nissan code translator which can be found at http://bit.ly/130jm5U.

That's awesome. Gives me idea for my tax return either this year or next haha. is the performance the same if that is done or is the 370 lighter than the 350? the 370 looks slimmer from what I can tell.

Let's start that answer over again: while it's possible mechanically to switch components, the electronic architecture of the VQ37VHR is quite different from that found in a Z33. Even with a Nissan master tech working on such a swap, there are sure to be CELs and drivability issues for a street-driven Z. This would be no ordinary DIY project.

Now, if you're building a racecar, or some other off-road project, that's a different story...

Z fever in florida can make the harness for you, that's the biggest hurdle.

It would be easier and less expensive to just buy a 370Z and install the side mirrors from a 350Z. Then you'd have the best of both worlds.

Well I figure I can just keep my paid-for 350, take about $8000 and have a 370 motor, as opposed to going out and dropping $25000 on a 370. But it definitely would be easier to do that. But the coding and electronics would be the hard part as previously stated.

Ya I was being VERY generous with $8000. But since it would be my first engine replacement, I was calculating professional labor too. Saw an '09 complete assembly for $2000 on eBay, but I wouldn't trust anything I didn't see taken out myself, or at least have a master tech go over to make sure all the components were there.

smart man....once you get engine and trans everything else is the harness and Z fever or whatever the shop is called now gave out estimates of 2-3k for the harness.

The DE uses different engine mounts than the HR And VHR IIRC.

The best OEM swap IMO would be HR heads on VR38 shortblock and the mid mount turbo kit from Sasha.

Sounds like an excellent project. Too bad I don't know anybody that owns scrapyard, junkyard, or anybody place that brings in wrecked vehicles. (Some people are junk lucky) Just gave me some ideas of my own to ponder on now.

I dont think this would be worth it at all, for the big bucks you can get an LS motor a 2JZ or for less you can boost it if not already boosted. my 2 cents

It would cost more than 8k I guarantee you if you paid someone else to do it. What you should do is get a vortech, and if you have over like 80k miles, maybe consider a built block. You'll have more power than the 370z engine, if you do it right, it will still be 100% street legal, AND it will be MUCH easier than swapping that engine in, and for 8k you could do the vortech, tires, suspension and clutch if you shop wisely.
