Difference of transmission models?
Sorry if this is a n00b question guys. My 5th gear is grinding on my 04, however I will use it until it blows. I want to get a spare tranny to have. I know the CD009 is the best one to get. But on craigs list I saw some VERY cheap ones locally that are either a CD001 the guy said its out of his 04? and a CD006 out of an 03. How is that? I though the higher number means one is newer? I know neither of these are as good as the CD009 but is one of these better then the other? or are they the same?
Guys, My question is NOT asking for the CD009 please don't keep bringing it up. I am asking if there are any differences between the CD001 and CD006
Thanks

From what I remember, over the revisions of the transmission, Nissan added synchros to additional gears and upgraded to double-, then triple- synchro rings on some gears. CD001 to CD006 may have had a number of those changes.

all gears have syncros the gears not listed as double or triple are single cone.
minor differences mostly just in parts suppliers you can covert either to cd009 may need to drill locating holes for syncros in gears and stress relieve and be cheaper if you do all the work yourself. if your having grinding issues did you try adjusting the clutch?
Seems no one really knows the difference between the CD001 and CD006, so I guess i will just gamble and get any...
the grinding is/was a common problem with the earlier models…my '03 transmission was replaced under warranty for similar issues in 3rd gear. I have a CD008 labelled tranny with what I assume are updated internals.
I would echo what Terrasmak said and go buy the inexpensive transmission, buy 2 sets of the correct/revised internals and rebuild it yourself…then when your existing tranny craps-out, install the rebuilt and rebuild your existing with the second set of internals and either sell it or hang on to it.

hard to call it "cheap" when its one of the strongest transmissions in the import world, heck its even stronger then a stock t56.
your not going to find many transmissions at all with that type of syncros in 5th and 6th because those gears are essentially seeing less power.
the biggest issue i see is people dont understand that syncros are a wear item, they are SUPPOSED to wear out, and when they do you replace them how many miles do you have on your tranny? mines got 125k miles on it now and only occasionally sees issues going into 5th and 6th

Ah, this explains why my 5th gear and 6th gear suck ***** in my CD009 transmission. Have to baby shift into those because they slightly grind if I don't shift ever so patiently into gear. Cheap fking Nissan transmissions. Couldn't they have upgraded the synchros in all gears?

just get the later model rebuild kit your gona need new bearings and stuff too because they will be worn. you may need to drill holes in gears for locating pins on the later revision syncros.
How much is the rebuild kit? I will likely just have a shop do the rebuild for me since I never worked in a tranny before.
