looks REALLY nice... i can't wait to see dynos...

my biggest concern is the sound- what do you mean by sounding "different"? does it sound like a (nasty) diesel engine like the crawford?

If it sounds good (or doesn't make any noticeable sound) I'm definitely gonna get one of these....

This is a great looking product! Innovation is a wonderful thing.

hmm..If you have the borla exhaust (which some people think is too muscular, but I think is just right) will it add a deeper sound or keep it as is?

It definitely doesn't. I don't think it's fair to go bashing Crawford just because LSD brought a tight part to market. I know fo a fact that you, hybrid24, haven't even attempted to bring a product like this to the community.

Let's just try and keep everything positive and get some good independant dynos on this thing. I for one would like to see it match the stock engine cover. Is that what you guys are going for with the color?

Also, is it at all possible to order a specific color from your plastic specialist? That would be awesome.

Dan

The 5th gen plenum that crawford came out with looks really nice and fixed the problem most people had with them (looks). But, IMO, this plenum is the better deal. The crawford is just under 400 with the core exchange, while this one is the same price and you keep your plenum. Also, with the Crawford, most want a strut and have to pay an additional $200 for it. Crawford and Kinetix both have really good parts, both have their pros and cons. It basically comes to YOUR personal preference.

I drove it some more last night and I definitely do like it! It is growing on me more and more. there also definitely is more power, no doubt about it, it will just have to wait till monday for the dyno.

sound - hard to describe but you can only hear it when it is idling. Different noises come from under the hood, not from the exhaust. The exhaust sound has not changed at all, my original borla exhaust by itself is still my favorite. The hi-flow cats changed them slightly, not bad, just not the same. the plenum sound once again comes from the plenum, up in the engine.

When you rev the car (from idle) you hear it for a second or two and then it is gone. Still hard to describe, I guess I will go out, drive it some more and come back later and try to give a more detailed description.

Sorry if i sound like I have no clue or I am trying to stay away from the "real sound", its neither of these, its just a hard sound to describe! I promise to listen more and to try and come up with something that will help you all understand what i am trying to say a little easier. (well maybe the clueless part is true )

i will also put on the strut and engine cover and snap a few more pics for everyone to see. My gut tells me that the color of the plenum will not match the black engine covers so people who are interested might want to think about painting it PRIOR to removing the stock plenum and doing the install. If you receive it and want to paint it, take it directly to the painter, get it the color you want and then install it so you do not have to remove it anytime thereafter. OR maybe like lsdunique said, the extra pigment he is planning on using will fix this issue!

Back to the garage!

What kind of plastic is it made out of? Will it be able to withstand the heat from the engine for a prolonged period of time, or is there a possibility of warping over an extended period of time? .Will there be any long term reliability testing

when all_bark posts pictures of the plenum with the engine cover on, I will follow with pictures of the new darker black with the engine cover, so you can see the difference in the new darker plenum. The production plenum will match the engine cover.

We have done a lot of research on the material used and its temperature durability. This is an incredibly versatile material and has plenty of headroom in terms of heat it can withstand and the heat it will actually be seeing.

The sound is definately just at idle. It is very hard to describe, and I think that is because it is actually very subtle.

(wow ppl are a bit sensitive around this forum)

Dan, I wasn't bashing the Crawford plenum at all, or at least in the way you think I was. If the word "nasty" that I used put your panties in a bunch a bit, I'm sorry. Poor word choice apparently. I was only referring to the sound and not the product in general.

I know for a fact that v4 has that sound from hearing sound clips, but I don't know for sure if v5 has it, I haven't heard it for myself. Crawford might claim that the sound is gone (but then again I've read a post from doug that says "Crawford Z Performance would like to offer our evolutionary Version 5 plenum to both new customers and our loyal existing customers. The Version 5 is different only in appearance from our earlier versions, but offers identical performance."), others might think that it's gone, but gee whiz, I'd still like to hear it for myself. I care about the sound. Sue me. I have a great lawyer.

While I understand that random posts that say "The Crawford plenum sucks monkey nipple" or "The Kinetix plenum is a piece of plastic sh@t" something of the like aren't exactly constructive at all (though they are still legitimate opinions, just stated poorly) I don't think my post earlier remotely resembled them at all.

So I humbly suggest you relax a bit Dan. There's still world hunger, racism, holy war, and pollution to worry about.

here are more pic's with the strut and engine covers installed.

everything went back in easy squeezy and looks very nice. when the FINAL VERSION comes out and everybody rushes out to get one, remember that the color will match the engine cover as lsdunique posted earlier.

Once again i still cannot describe the sound but to add this small comparision but please do not take it so literal.

It reminds me of an airplane jet engine that is starting to wind up getting ready for take off. Almost like it is spooling up, generating more power, but like I stated earlier, the sound is at idle and up to 2000 rpm, maybe as high as 2500 rpm, but after that it is gone. and remember take the description as a grain of salt, (just a little) because its the best I can do right now.

and just so you all know,

I like the sound, ALOT, and it seems to me that I am liking it more and more as I am driving the car!!!!!

enjoy the new photos

Agree! Lets keep this thread dealing with the "Plenum" that all_bark is testing. I for one do not want to have to read page after page of everyone knocking each others products
