Replacing hydrolocked 2003 vq35de help!
So we had a big rain here in TN and a creek flooded the road near my house, as the nascar driver that I am I was speeding around a corner and by the time I look up I was going through the creek that was overflowing the road. Tried to pull the spark plugs and see if I could get the water to come out and had no luck. Drained the oil and found a lot of aluminum so the engine is shot. My Z is an early production 2003 base model. The engine I'm buying to replace mine is out of a later production 2004 model. I am going to get the engine and the tranny my question is will everything be interchangeable and will I need to get the ecu off of the other car or anything else ?
All interchangeable, you might need to change to electric fans or reuse your belt configuration as the early 03 I believe had a belt driven fan that didn't even last the year...
gotta look at yours.
If your using your computer you should be ok just take old out put new in.

Unless the OP got the water into the electrical harness, IPDM or ECM, there's no reason to swap anything out. But if any of those components were immersed, all bets are off.
Not sure where you got your info from, but I have an original preorder Z and it's always used electric radiator fans. I'd suggest changing the accessory belt anyway, it's worth doing it while the motor is out.

Just use the long block. Everything will bolt up and plug in. They only part in question will be the O2 sensors, make sure you use the ones from your 03. In 04.5 they changed to wide and that are not compatible with your ECU.
Got you... I knew I read someplace that the pully ran a fan at one time and they just kept it as a pully on later models. That was the only difference I knew about. What was the date cutoff for the 04 to the 04 1/2?
I believe it's by vin, I believe it's listed in the top 100 questions. I would have to do the same thing you need to do to find it.
