Default Engine Removal with lift

Hey everyone.

I'm in the process of swapping the VQ motor from a 350 Z to a 77 Datsun Z. We are about to get into removing the engine from the 350 Z and wanted to know what the best route would be to remove the engine with a lift? I have tried Google searching YouTube videos and also searching this forum and haven't found the information I'm looking for.

If there is a write up on how to do this with an engine lift somewhere out there I would love to have the link. If not I would like to do is know if the engine and transmission can be dropped from under bolted to the crossmember of some sort any information on this would be awesome.

Thanks

Most people with a shop raise the car off the drive train when un bolted.

And for those of us without a lift, it's usually easier to take apart the front fascia, then unbolt the core support, take out the radiator and pull the engine/gearbox out with the engine crane. Sorry, no writeup or vid for you to view on this...

Pull motor and tranny out together from the front of the car.

If you have a full car lift I would think the engine, subframe and transmission should be easily unbolted from the body and then use the lift to just raise the body off the drivetrain. This is usually how they put the engine in cars when they are manufactured.

I don't remember seeing a how to post on removing the engin, but the FSM available on NICOclub is extremely useful if you haven't already referenced it.

Thanks for the responses. I would assume using the lift would be easier than taking aprart the front like I have seen in other posts while searching. I guess I wont see what we are getting into until we put it on the lift and look from below.

Rancor- Thanks for the FSM heads up. I will actually need this for when it comes to wiring everything up into the Datsun.

you can do it without removing the front if you take off the trans and the headers (we cut these because he was ls swapping)

Actually, it's quite a bit easier if you don't have a lift.
