Lightbulb Engine Coolant Question

Hi Everyone,

I’m planning to drain and replace my engine coolant. I picked up the Blue “long life” engine coolant (see picture below). When I called the Nissan dealership they insisted not to use the Blue as they said it is not compatible with my engine. I was under the impression that the blue and green coolants are interchangeable. I decided to call 3 different dealerships and all the techs said to only use the green concentrated coolant and mix it 50/50 with distilled water. My car is a 2006 Rev-up and currently has green coolant.

thoughts?

I was a Nissan Tech for 4 years. Around 2013, Nissan started using blue coolant. They recommend not using green in anything newer than 2013. I don't think the blue will hurt your car, but it's more expensive than the green, which is what came in your car from the factory. I'd return it and get the green.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll return it and get the green coolant.

I put a green one as it comes from the factory and would go with it again. I bet a blue one wouldn't harm the engine, but still will put what manufacturer recommends.

I put blue in the Nissan, green in the Mustang, red in Porsche. but who knows if the color actually makes any difference?

Change it yet??

Rem to pour is slowwwwwwwwly to decrease the air pockets/bubbles.

Purging the air from system is a b!tch.

I've done it three times in the past year on my Z. what works great for me is to use a huge funnel. I've got one of those XL funnels from AutoZone which I set in the radiator opening, half full of coolant. start the car. go through a series of idle and 3K rpm for about 10 seconds at a time, alternating. while it's idling, I go back to the engine and keep an eye on the level in the funnel. you'll see bubbles coming up into the funnel. after about 5 minutes of this, I shut off the engine, and come back in about an hour to do it again. that may not be necessary but that's what I do.
