NA Power
hi
I was wondering how much power the 350z can net, with out using forced induction ? What is the maximum amount of Kw , or hp it can create at the wheels (no turbo, no sc) regardless of how much money i spend on the engine. Is it anywere near 350 Kw ?
I like NA tuning because it is a little more reliable, and i dont like turbo lag.
Thanks for any help !

I think that'll be a difficult ask. You're talking about a 70% increase in output. Not impossible but you're going to lose some driveability and refinement and be left with a unhealthy bank balance.
Personally I don't believe NA is any more reliable than FI and lag has been relegated to the 80s and incorrectly sized turbos.
EDIT: BTW a Nismo crate engine would give you 335kw and IIRC was around AUD$50,000 when I did the conversion.

I think we had a discussion on this before, you might want to do a search. I think we found the max hp for a 3.5ish liter motor was about 450hp. That is basically a full on race motor, which would be difficult to drive around town and have a very narrow powerband. 330-380 is acheived by some 6 cylinder Bimmers and Porsches. Porsche GT3 has 380 hp(flat 6) and BMW M3 (inline 6) has 330hp.
350 is possible on these motors with a lot of work, 330 would still be very streetable and could be achieved with some internal work, noone has really messed with the heads yet and mjedens got 304 with boltons cams and high comp pistons. a cheaper alternative would be to raise compression through the heads i.e nismo heads which also flow better plus some good cams should yield around the same if not more than he did. also try raising the redline for more power has anyone tried to build an 8000 rpm vq? would make for some interesting results

As for raising the rev to 8k... From what I have been told the engine is internally balanced to 6600-7000. Another 200rpm or so is within tolerance, but 8k... it'll shake itself to pieces.

i know that i mean actually building it to handle 8k while replacing internals balancing the crank etc. i thought he had more comp, wow he could have gone higher and gotten even more, so there is definitely more power to be had!

11.5 - 12.0 would have been nice.
Well... for an NA application.
For that big shot of NOS he's going to fire it wouldn't be!
F1 engines make 800hp without a blower. of course they rev to 18000RPMs. by the time you got your car there, I dont think Id call it a VQ anymore. forged aluminum block, hydrolic lifters, forged internals ect ect. basicly a whole new motor that happens to fit into the Z. and to be honest, the Z isnt worthy of such an engine.

Highest HP I ahve seen to date on a street diven car in this country is mjdens - in japan its Esprit's car, whcih is right at 350 hp, all NA, with pistons, cams, ecu, exhaust, headers...the usual suspects.
Ares - Hydrauic lifters on a high HP car - definately not what you want

Every bolt on you can buy, his pistons are 11.5:1 shaved to 10.5:1 so for all intents and purposes very close to stock, forged internals, cams (268), etc., flywheel.... I am sure the rebuild gave him a little extra if it was balanced which I think it was. Don't remember everything. The Top 10 NA Z list has a list of his mods.
