The guy said that with the new sleeves and connecitng rods (which are the true weak links in the VQ engine) they had tested the engine up to 55psi of boost. It's on the website too. I don't know how accurate that statement is, but 55psi is one hella boost.

I can't recall exactly. Either $4k or $8k. Maybe Tadashi can chime in. He and I were talking to the folks over at the PE booth about blowing a stroked engine!!!

There's always that Nismo* crate motor that has 450hp NA.

*Jeff and Jason spoke to Nismo USA reps a while back and they said they don't make it even though there was a Nimso serial # pictured on Overboost.com.

The 55 psi of boost wasn't on a VQ engine, is was on a b-series Honda motor. Check out their t-sleeves... sick stuff! I couldnt' imagine a 2500 lbs Honda hatch boosting 50 psi... GEEEZUS!

I wouldn't mind seeing them build a VQ block to handle 1.5 - 2BAR safely.

Even then... bottomline it comes down to tuning.

That 55psi setup... don't get it right, and BOOM.

Hmmm...wonder if 11.5 CR with that stroker kit is ok with the stupid *** 91 gas we have in Cali??? If not, with that setup and some Tomei 264 cams will be nice!!!

There's always that Nismo* crate motor that has 450hp NA.
it's made but not offered for sale to the general public, and not anything that involved NISMO USA (whcih has nothing in common really to NISMO Japan)

How exactly does increasing liters make more power?

Allows the engine to flow more air. That is the name of the game, right? More capacity.

Ha Ha my girlfriends brother just gave me "motors 101" talk lol.. It will up the cubic inches of the motor which will allow more air to flow. With that you will have to tune the ECU for more fuel and probably change the injectors..

So basiclly more air, more fuel, stronger components = More HP!

He also said torque will be nicely increased as well

As good as AEBS is - what does 'tested at 55 psi of boost mean"....granted thats ALOT of boost, but it really tells you nothing

I just wonder how this thing qwould rev, and what cams would be well suited to it - stock Z has absolutely nothing upstairs as it is

This could be a good alternative to boosting.

I hope more information is made available in the near future.

How it would rev depends on what you do with the valvetrain. We race V8's that we shift at 8K RPMs. Yes, the overall potential of RPM will be lower with a stroked motor, but it will not be less than what a built valvetrain is capable of. Especially on a street motor. With built heads, you can still rev the VQ to 7K or 8K if you want to no matter what displacement you have it at.

infindsg35, liters is the metric way to measure cubic inches. so, technically, i guess increasing liters does increase cubic inches, although one does not cause the other. it's the same.

This is strictly a guess, but maybe the 11.0 pistons were made for us Californians with our lame 91 octane pump gas.

As for revving smoothly and how well-balanced it's going to be, well that's the $64k question; it will probably suffer from top end power due to more mass traveling a larger diameter circle (i.e. the bigger crank, plus the rods), but the stock VQ hp peaks around 5,800 rpm anyhow, doesn't it? I think the low down torque is where the gains are going to be, and if I'm right the gains will be substantial over stock (i.e. >22% in added displacement) and more importantly it should be a linear increase throughout the low- and mid-rmp range. But this is just my opinion. We won't know for sure until someone actually takes the plunge, so to speak.
