Default Need help with CAMS INSTALL

Ok..My friend just got Nismo Race cams and we live in Maine. He paid close to $1300 for them and now he is being faced with a problem that no one around here wants to install them. The only place that did say they would do it was NISSAN where he bought the car but they want $1200 for the labor. THATS INSANE. Does anyone have any suggestions or know anyone who had someone do it to their car that would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows anything close to Maine that would be cool.
thanks

Actually, that's not far off for install on cams. A Nissan dealership told my installer that they wouldn't touch a cam job--it's pretty complicated and VERY involved. Different torque specs for each cam, dismantling a large chunk of the engine, etc.

This is far from a simple single cam install.

You can get them installed for way less than that. Think 500 bucks somewhere interested in helping the customer rather than just charging what the manual says.

That job is listed as like 16 hours of labor or so. If you check out
the service manual you'll see it's a pretty scary looking job.

I would rather just pay 4400 for the Vortech, than 3000 for cams.

I have to agree, it is a long and hard job. The price you were quoted is pretty close to what most have paid. That being said, if you really think you know what you are doing, then the best way to save the cash is to DIY. Hate to say it, but that is how it is.

Default Cost !!

Go ahead and replace your pistons & rods at the same time and then the cam installation becomes more cost effective!!
(I'm trying to be a "smart ***")

I own my own shop. If someone can send me the files of the factory service manual on the cam installation, I will most likely purchase the tomei 268's and will do a comprehensive install that I will in turn post here for you guys.

See I want someone who has some experience doing it to a 350 successfuly. It is way complicated with the 4 cams. I am not saying you dont know what you are doing but for a 35K car i defenitly whant someone who constanly does these things.

I know what you're saying, but if my installer had charged me hours actually worked instead of what the manual says, I would have paid A LOT more.

You should have done your homework and researched before spending the money mr money. Heres your options:

Sell the cams and get your money back,
DIY,
pay the money to install

You have unrealistic expectations and demands and this is the result.

you cant find a cam install for the 350z cheap anywhere ,cause quite frankly it is gonna take forever, and as Jason said, its almost like rebuilding the motor.
