Try this post on 350zFrenzy.
This guy does great work and has a list of some materials.
You can glean alot of information from his photos and descriptions.
He painted mine, shown below.

I agree, he does awesome work. I've read all 500+ posts on frenzy about this.
But, I still can't find the will to drop $400 to get my covers painted. I want to try to paint them myself and save my money for something like a Vortech.
$400 is like 50 hours of work at my residents salary.

Easy DIY mod......
1. Remove all plastic/metal parts you want to paint.
2. Wash all parts and scrub with Brillo steel wool/soap pad for 10 minutes for each part. Make sure to get every little crack and corner. This is the key step to the whole process. It will remove the oils from the surface of the plastic as well as finely roughing the surface for painting.
3. Prime with hi-temp primer. Use 2-3 coats. Available in most auto-supply stores.
4. Paint with hi-temp engine paint. You don't need the engine block paint which is rated upto 1200 degrees. This is overkill. Your color selection is limited, however. I've seen red, orange, black, silver, aluminum, chrome finish. Anything else and you will need to take to a body/custom paint shop.
Good luck

You need some Bulldog adhesion primer, that helps regular paint stick to plastic. You can get cans of spray that match the Z's colors from www.towerpaint.com. All you need is the paint code to order it.

Go ahead and try it. What do you have to lose.
But try the battery cover first. Cost $11.00 from the dealer to replace. Finish it up and drive it a few weeks, and see how the heat effects it. Then do the other two.
Your choice of Gloss Black will make it easier since you can go with a generic black and not Nissan OEM colors like we Brickyards did.
I too was sceptical about the cost. But I did it and i have never regreted it. Rob did such great job and well worth the money.
