Default dyno

I ran on a dyno yesterday it was a dynojet, with the mods in my sig i only achieved 229.7hp and 228.9tq, this was a 5th gear pull, well after gettin back into the car the ABS, BRAKE, VDC, SLIP lights were all on, so i asked the guy about it and he was clueless, called my mechanic at nissan and he told me that it sounds like they dynoed without turnin off VDC, so i did a nice powerslide and all the lights went off, well needless to say i was flaming mad that i only gained 1 hp from all my mods over stock, the car only has 4500 miles, could the vdc affected the numbers at all, not to mention the guy workin on the dyno told me that this dyno seems to be a consistent 15hp shy of what things should be, so my question is would the VDC effect numbers? and i would like to see a stock dyno chart if anyone has one to show

no my lights were all on when i got off the dyno too. all dynoes read different did you do a baseline when you were stock to compare? was the fan blowing? were the numbers corrected? what was your a/f? is your filter dirty? was their dyno calibrated? what do other z's run on THAT dyno? all these things are variables so try not to think somethings wrong without more info.

oh and one more thing those big heavy 19's are hurting your numbers probably by at least 7-10 whp too.

yeah the stock dyno run was on a diff dyno so i know that may vary, they had no fan blowin on any of the cars, so that could make a small difference. all the numbers were SAE corrected, they had no wideband 02 so no a\f readings, the car only has 4500 miles so i doubt the air filter is dirty enough to worry about, as far as calibration on the dyno they guy runnin the dyno told me that dyno is consistently 10-15hp lower than most dynos, no other Zs ran on the dyno that day, i really dont see the 19s chagin much, the rears weight 25lbs, not sure what the stock performance wheels weight but thats what my stock dyno was done on

I dyno-ed my car with AEM CAI, Borla TD exhaust on a dynojet and only get 227 WHP and 117 WTQ. Doesn't matter if you have the VDC on or off. The computer stills throwing lights on. This due to the fact that your rear wheels were spinning and the fronts don't.

Why did they dyno the car in 5th gear? I thought 4th gear was best in the Z because that's where the ratio is 1:1 ?

You dyno'd in 5th; your numbers are going to be lower. Try it in 4th and you'll get better results (1:1 ratio as somebody mentioned already).

I dynoed my car and all the lights were on. The reason is that your front tires are not turning and the backs are going fast as hell.......5TH GEAR....Dyno operator should have known better .Make sure your VDC button is off next time

It is impossible to dyno with the VDC on, the ECU will not let you, that's what its there for.
If all 4 lights are on, then they did turn it off for the dyno runs.
If they tried to run it with the VDC on you probably would have gotten about 5HP.
Give the dyno operators some credit, they have probably done this sort of thing before.

all over this forum people have said to dyno in 5th gear, i told the dyno operator to dyno in 5th, and he said no we wont do 5th, after i told him that everyone has told me to dyno in 5th on the forums he then said "oh ok, i didnt know, but its good to know cause we have dynoed alot of these cars" this tranny is very close in ratio, 4th gear probably wouldnt have yielded much higher numbers.

my numbers look almost identical to duflacci but mare about 20 hp lower, the cross of hp and torque is in the exact spot, the fall off of torque,

Just a few notes from my perspective (I just got back from another dyno a few minutes ago)

1. All those lights freaked me out too. No biggie, just VDC flippin out. As soon as you move 100 ft, they go off.
2. You cannot dyno with VDC on. If your dyno ran, then VDC was off.
3. 5th gear is best for manual, 4th for auto.
4. For the most part, dyno numbers don't mean much. I only go for A/F info. However, if you must compare before and after HP numbers, use the same dyno on a day of similar weahter conditions. Then, don't look at the peak numbers. Instead, concerntrate on % increase and area under the curve. This is all that matters.

I have dynoed my car in 4th and 5th countless times at this point - my numbers varied by at most 3 hp.

There really is not way to draw any correlatiosn with your situation, as you not only changed wheels and tires, but also dynos =- sort of throws any meaningful results out the window.

The most important thing is to continually use the same dyno for every round of evaluation - variations will still exist, but they are much more limited in this way.
