From being under the 350Z and sedan I can say that there a lot of common parts there. I think the sedan and coupe are more similar just because of the wheelbase. You have to think that Nissan/Infiniti will use as many common parts as possible to keep production costs down. I think people might be really shocked how many components are shared between the 350z/g35 coupe/g35 sedan/ fx sport utilities.

In the early 90's Audi Quattro's friggin dominated the GTO and Trans Am series, in fact the Trans Am series tried hard to slow them down but couldn't and eventually outlawed non-American made cars. Well engineered 4wd will ALWAYS be faster than 2wd, trust me.

I heard someone mention that an AWD swap wouldn't give real gains for the Z, considering the immense weight of the swap. The Z is damned heavy already!

The AWD in the G35X and FX35 uses the same system as in the FX45 and the FX45 does have 310lbft of torque so I would put some money down that it's capable of handling a good decent amount of power. Plus there are some ATI Procharged FX35s out there that put out 280HP at the wheels (AWD).

It is however, an electronically controlled unit and may have issues if the AWD was constantly running. The manual does give warnings about overheating the AWD in which case the system will shut down and revert to RWD bias.

The AWD system is 50-50 split during starting acceleration as well. The weight is the biggest issue.

wrong, the coupe, sedan and 350z all share the same chassis. The g35's are just stretched like stated in the above posts. Almost everything is interchangable chassis/drivetrain wise on all 3 vehicles. Sways, brakes, transmission, gearing, suspension members, y-pipe and engine are all shared between these 3 vehicles.
