Question Auto tranny for the 350Z...

Does anyone have the tiptronic for the Z? I live in a high traffic area and unfortunately will be getting the auto. Does anyone know what the actual or published 0-60 time is for the auto?

I know the manual is 5.3-5.4 and I would assume that you lost at least 3/10 of a sec with the auto.

Please reply if you know the what the numbers are.

Anyone here actually have the automatic with their Z who could attest to the numbers?

I have an auto. Im just as fast as many 6 speeds. Alot of stock autos run 13.8 13.9. The one difference you might feel is on the freeway. I've raced many 6 speeds on the street for the 1/4 and it's either in my favor or too close to tell depending on how skilled of a driver he is. But when i race them on the freeway, my greater powertrain loss starts to show. They slowly pull on me. I mean it coudl be since im pretty much stock and they might be modded but nothing that i can tell.
Go auto, if your worried about a performance loss your not going to notice it.

Thank you!!! So, it's pretty safe to assume that the 0-60 for the auto without manually shifting is around 5.5-5.6. If one were to test using the sport-shift then maybe 5.4-5.5. I plan to do Nismo headers, cams, exhaust, Crawford Plenum, Injen Intake, and KN filter. I figure I'd get about 20-30 HP gain at the wheels which should lower the 0-60 about 2/10 secs and lower the 1/4 about half a sec maybe more.

go to 350evo.com and get one of their 3.9 final drives, very nice help greatly with acceleration.

Also, many people here have an Edge racing torque converter and Stillen just came out with an upgraded valvebody set for the auto tranny

have fun

I have never seen any published numbers for the Z on autos 0-60 time. I think they had some info about the G35 on USA todays auto section and it was like a second slower for the automatic.
I dont like the gearing in the autos..especially the difference between 2nd and 3rd. It seems like the two gears are two far apart. There is like no pull in third gear if you start from a low rpm like 2 to 3000.

Strapped to the dyno, my nearly-stock (only the Nismo intake at that point) auto managed to post a 0-60 of 5.4 seconds letting the transmission do the shifting. Not bad! The 1/4 was 14.0 @ 98 mph on the same dyno. (Sorry, I've never timed the 0-60 while the car was on the street/strip, so I don't know how much difference the drag makes.)

Thanks for all of the information on this topic. Damn, I could only imagine how fast my car would be if I add the Nismo headers, exhaust, intake, camshafts, crawford plenum, stillen valve body, and KN Air filter. WOWOWOW

That would be some serious power. At least 50 extra HP. See, I'm trying to decide whether to do the Z and mod it or get the new Corvette C6. I know you guys don't want to hear about a vette in this forum but I'm just being honest.

Thanks again!

xXVANQUISHXx, I traded a 6MT G35 coupe I had for a little over a year and put over 23k mi. on for a roadster w/a 5AT a couple of weeks ago, so I have a bit of a unique perspective, having driven both cars, +/- 7hp and 175 lbs. With VDC off (I hated it) on the coupe, the tires often broke loose in one and two when running through the gears, and in 3 or lower when downshifting 2 or more gears, due to all that low end torque, which actually can give the auto. a slight advantage.

The reason myinfinitig20 has experienced people walking away from his auto on the freeway may be that the 6 speed gearing seemed perfect for downshifting from 6 to 4 at about 80 mph do get a good moving jump on a challenger; on the auto, 3 is too low (revs too high and hits limiter for automatic upshift), and 4 just doesn't seem to have the same torque at that speed, despite the fact that I now have about 175 less lbs. Both cars were/are stock, although the Z is about to get modded.

BTW, you should at least consider the Crawford headers and cats if you are already going with the plenum, since the entire Crawford line was sort of designed to work as a system. Call Doug and talk to him.

Have 5AT with crawford package (plenum, cats, headers.), borla, pulley, drop in filter. best time was 9.25 in 1/8 mile. I have not perfected launch with stock converter and tires. While on the dyno i did discover strange problems with timing drop from 3rd to 4th gear resulting in over a 20hp decrease. Will be installing transmission / oil cooler and reflash to see if this will cure my problems. 254rwhp in 3rd gear; 222 in 4th gear.

dude if you have enough money get the vette. It is going to be the best vette ever. 400 hp, 6.0 liter v8. the z won't touch it.

imo, 3 isnt too high unless you start from a 90+mph roll. I top out at about 102-103 (3rd) before the auto upshifts, 105-106 if I do it manually.

Go with the vette. For the money and the power, can't beat it.

However, it will be 1st year model, so keep that in mind.

I have the 5AT and use the triptronic mode all the time. I get great acceleration, although these guys are right there isnt as much umph from 2nd to 3rd as I'd like. Thanks for the tidbit on the 350Zevo site I'll go check it out.
