Default Ready to take the plunge. Need advice.

I'm ready to drop some serious money on my 2004 350Z Roadster. I'm plan to install a Stillen cat back exhaust and headers, Injen cai, Kenitix plenum, high flow cats, and Unorthadox lightweight pullys. However after reading alot of post of those who went before me I came across a post stating that 2004 ECUs are not able to be reflashed at this time. So aviod getting the plenum and HF cats to prevent your engine from running lean. MY build date is 2004-6 so I don't believe I have an 03 ECU. My question is what can I safely upgrage right now without having to reflash or tweaking the ECU.

I thought technosquare had worked out how to flash the '04 ECU, now?

You could always get a piggyback unit like the E-manage. It'll give you a little more flexibility, in the future, instead of keep having to ship off your chip.

Well, I was addressing my concerns with Jeremy, a mechanic who does mod work on the Z's at my local Nissan dealer. He pretty knowledgable what setup works best and the limitations that goes with it. He told me to sit tight and let the market mature a little bit more. There's always new breakthroughs coming along. With only 130 miles on the Z he told me I shouldn't even be thinking about mods until I put in a couple of thousand miles on the car. I guess I got some driving to do.

Thumbs up

Congratulations on your new Roadster! I also have one, Touring with 6MT. You are safe right now doing a cat back exhaust and CAI for sure. I think one of the biggest thing that you want to avoid during your first 3000 miles is synthetic oil. You can see the Injen CAI and SES exhaust install on my car at www.gridesinc.com click on the G Ride 1 button. You can also see my wheel/tire upgrade there. I'm sure that you will love the car, mine pulls lots of attention. Welcome to the club.

Those wheels compliment your Z beautifully. My roadster is also the touring version w/6MT. I test drove a 5AT and it was silky smooth but I perfer the feel of the 6 speed instead. My neighbor suggested that a new set of wheels should be my first mod, if you call changing out wheel sets a mod. The color of my Z is LeMans Sunset and I think a set of wheels in hyperblack will give it an agressive appearance.

Even if that were the case, how does the vehicle immobilizer feature (keys) fit in the picture? Can you use a "used" ecm? If you can, my shop has my old ecu (ecm) that's in perfect condition. We put a new ecm in the vehicle, thinking it was the ecu, when it just turned out to be a defective rpm adapter

Thanks for the link, King. The wheels on the Sunset roadster are the ones I've been looking at. I think they're made by Enkei. Now that I know how they truely look I'm going to fit my Z with a set. The service manager offered me a set of 18s that came off a Track Z but I'm not too crazy how they look. I know there will be those who will feel I'm a fool for passing them up. As for a 03 ECU, I don't know if one can just swap them out. It just sounds too simple.
