Changing the Differential / Transmission Oil
All,
Just contact your local dealer and pick up the Manual Trans fluid there. I was going to do the whole Red Line mixing but I called HB Nissan that had the fluid in stock and picked up 4 quarts for about $9.XX each rather then the $14 or so for redline.

WHen you empty the differential you are not draining the fluid from the LSD. You are only draining the gear oil that lubes the ring and pinion gear.
What is a LAD?
It has been 2 days and I've seen no ill effects from the oil switch. I can't tell if I really notice a difference, though. It could be the placedo effect, but it seems easier to downshift into 1st gear when approaching a slow corner or a stop. before, it took alot of effort to downshift into first while rolling.
I also have performed alot of clutchless upshifts and downshifts to check engagement differences. This is not to be confused with powershifting! this is just normal driving/shifting but not using the clutch. You have to "rev match" the engine rpms to the gear rpm of the gear you are going to shift into. It takes practice to do it, but you can in every gear....even a downshift into 1st! this type of clutchless shifting seems to be easier to perform and more forgiving with the Redline MT-90. trust me, if you dont get it right, the shifter won't go into to gear or you will grind, guaranteed.

I did this, this past weekend. Took me about 1.5 hrs by myself. 30 minutes of that was jacking the car up. I went with Redline fluids... mix of MTL & MT-90 in the trans then 75w90 for the rear diff.
Was pretty easy, just a bit nasty. Used two pumps since I didn't want to mix any GL-4 & GL-5 fluids.
Rear diff took about 1.8 qt and the trans took 3.4'ish qt. This sound about right guys?
Shifting seems to be a bit smoother and the normal trans ( not supercharger hehe
) whine is still there if not a bit louder. (maybe it is all in my head
)

so I guess the best place is just to order directly from redline? Any other places online with good prices?
edit: saferacer is slightly cheaper than buying directly from redline.com Saved about 10 bucks on the shipping.

No problem!!
I changed my diff and trans oil Monday and installed some fresh Redline.
Also installed an adjustable rear camber kit from Works Concepts and had it aligned at Mathews Nissan. Sheitty dealership but the Tech that performed the alignment has good work ethics. I could be wrong but he really showed an interest in doing a good job even after the garage was closed and he was the only one working.
whoa, i didn't see this in my email lol. sorry. the straight MT-90 was ok, but when the temps dropped into the low 30s and lower, the very first shift of the day would result in a huge grind. i solved it by gently winding out first gear for at least ten straight seconds before shifting into 2nd. it almost seemed like the oil would not flow to the gears after the car has been sitting. i also noticed that even at operating temp the shifting was slightly more notchy then with oem fluid. last but not least, i was experiencing terrible gas mileage (~16.8mpg) when i normally never go below 19.xx. i couldn't pinpoint the bad mpg to just the trans oil since i was running RP 75-90 in the rear diff (terrible howling in the cold) and german castrol in the oilpan.
since then i've switched back to oem nissan GL4 gear oil for the trans, castrol conventional hypoy-C in the rear diff and pennzoil plat 5w-30 (because the car was on jackstands anyway) in the crankcase. the result is smoother shifting with no grindage even when temps were in the single digits. and my mpg is definately in the 20.xx range now during my same commutes due to the warmer spring air. this is an improvement over my 19mpg i usually average the past two years. so, i definately think it pays to change the gear oils earlier then oem recommendations.

just did my rear diff this past weekend....it wasnt that hard ...l just left the car on the ground went i fill it back up the car is level for the most part, it is lower and i was able to get under it and fill it with a pump i got from autozone....i would say if you can get the car on four jack stand it is alot better.....i have like no skills when it comes to working on cars and i found this easy.....
Apparantly nobody in the world, as far as auto parts stores, stocks Redline so I just ordered some from Amazon.com, they are the cheapest I could find. Even ordering some from Advanced Auto was more expensive than having them shipped to my door from Amazon. I ordered up 2 bottles of Redline 75w90 GL-5 gear oil, 2 bottles of 70w80 MTL, and 2 bottles of MT90. Got that all for $75.89 shipped. Just ordered 4 new crush washers from my Nissan dealer too (nobody stocks them either). All that's left is a suction gun, and a 10mm Hex socket. I think that should be all, anything I forgot? I'll be sure to post up my experience like everyone did.

Just did mine this afternoon at work. Pretty darn easy when you work at a dealership.
The guy who owned it before me must have torqued the **** out of the drain bolt cause I had to use a breaker bar to get it off! Used redline MTL I live in Denver and we are in the middle of a blizzard right now but monday is supposed to be 70's so we will see how it works. Had a Third gear synchro grind so I am crossing my fingers. Already though just sitiing inside the tranny shifts so smooth now.

Just did this today, what a pain in the ***, haha.
2 quarts Redline diff fluid
2 quarts Redline MTL
2 quarts Redline MT-90
($75 shipped from Amazon.com)
4 new washers from Nissan ($13.78 w/tax)
Honestly its not that bad other than trying to fill the trans up, the fill hole is in an awkward place, but the suction gun I got at Autozone ($8) was able to get the job done fairly easily. Also, the smell of that diff fluid is enough to make you puke.
So far so good, seems to shift smooth, but I've only driven for like 5 minutes so I can't really say this stuff is the best ever just yet.
Glad that's over.
2 cases of Corona ($60)
