Did the Tranny and Diff Fluid on Sunday. I had aprox 50k miles on the tranny, now I can honestly say my shifts are a bit smoother. Especially when the car is cold, but even in traffic it goes into 1st and 2nd a lot smoother.

Took me a little less than 2 hours, I gave the tranny a good 30min to drain. (I think 5 would have been fine.)

Used 2Qts each Redline MTL 70W-80 and MT-90 75W-90 GL4 for the Transmission.

2 Qts Redline MT 90 75w90 GL5 for the Diff.

Some advice, for anyone planning on doing this.
1. put a piece of cardboard or newspaper underneath your work area.
2. put the drain pan under the tranny and fill plug.
3. Open the drain plug first! Mine was hard as hell to upen, and I had to leverage it using a hammer (closest tool, fill plug first was mentioned ealrlier in the thread) if the fill plug doesn't open, you're kinda screwed if you drained the fluids.

Reason for #1&2, even though I thought the car was level, my tranny did leak a bit from the fill plug for a couple of seconds. #3 I feel is a common sense thing to do that I would have never thought of had I not read it here. (Make sure you can fill it before you drain it )

Best of Luck.

So you would want to be able to know if you can refill it first right? So ensure you can get the fill plug off first correct?

Default Changing the differential fluid

I recently had my tranny/diff fluid changed. Now, in cold weather(50degrees and below), I cannot shift from 1st to 2nd, and the tranny or diff. whines until everything warms up in about 5 miles of driving. Then it is fine. My tech swears he used the proper fluids (75/85 for the MT and 80/90 for the diff.).
Could the fluid brand have caused this? Or is it an unrelated tranny failure? I'm
worried that continued driving this way will eventually damage the transmission. Any advice?

was this done at a nissan or infiniti dealership? i'm wondering what brand oil they used as 75/85 is pretty tough (for me) to find. i ended up filling my trans with 75w-90 redline MT-90 and off the shelf royal purple 75w-90 in the diff.

This was done at a local tech I know. At least his invoice stated so. Should I have try a refill? Seems pricey.

haha now that you mention it. now that the weather is into the 30s, my trans doesn't want to shift into 2nd for at least two attempts of me rolling in the parking lot. after that it shifts fine, but notchy!

also, i've noticed a noticeable 0.4-1.2mpg decrease in fuel mileage. it might not be entirely the MT90's fault. i did 4 disc brakes and pads, trans (MT90)/diff (royal purple 75W-90) fluid changes, oil and filter change to GC 0W-30.i did this all at the same time. also, before all this maintenance i ran a full tank of fuel mixed with chevron techron fuel system cleaner. i think this redline MT90 isn't what it's cracked up to be. i sort of wish i spent the extra money buying genuine nissan fluid and be able to shift when the weather is cold!

Just I wish I would of kept my TRANS oil to OEM!!! Hard and grinding shifting in the cold!!

Read my entire post. This should clarify it for you. I used a different brand, but that is not going to matter. Look at the weight specs:

Its says on the Royal Purple bottle it meets Gl4 and Gl5 requirements.. Im guessing I can use it in both the trans and diff because in your post it tells me GL5 for the diff and GL4 for the trans?

you can run it in both the trans and the diff, but some people have reported bad results from it usually in the form of notchy shifting after a while of having it in the transmission.

After doing my trans/diff oil change a few months ago, everytime i am on a slightly sloped road like an onramp to a freeway my "SLIP" light blinks.

Does that mean i dont have enough fluid in my transmission/diff?

Or does it just mean my clutch is going out?

Thanks!

1. You didn't get your wheels rotated, right?
2. Are your rear tire really worn out (bald), while the fronts are still new?
3. Check your rear axle stub to make sure it's still lined up with the ABS sensor. It could be that the axle stub is shifting out of position. I've had the LSD shop not install the axle stub clip ring properly, and it did not line up w/the sensor.
4. Your fluid replacement should not be the direct cause of the TCS acting up.

Well, when doing this oil change i never messed with the axle stub ( i believe) My tires havent been rotated nor are they bald.

I think the tcs is doing its job when i try to take turns faster then it thinks safe....the slip light comes on and therefore whenever i try to accelerate it prevents me from accelerating at all....

im thinking it might be my tires....235/35/19 and 265/30/19 in the rears.
