Default Hideaway License Plates

I am interested in trying to fabricate a hideaway license plate system for my z. I was wondering if anyone knows where i can find pictures of them on cars or if there is anyone that has one or has any ideas that would make creating one easier. Thanks
Mike

Why would you do such a thing? I would just get a clear "cover" with a switch that allows the liquid inside to become non transparents anymore... ever see those doors that are clear and then they become frosted? same idea...

theres room behind there maybe for it to swivel... or just pull up and away from view.

i was actually thinkin about doin that probably next summer...in the front i want to make it either fold up or down and then pull in, it looks like theres room behind the bumper to make it possible...ive seen on a car a while ago when they put it in reverse the back license plate folds down and there were some reverse lights behind the plate, so it is possible , just have to figure out exactly what to use

as long as you also install a camera mount with enough film for the chase, arrest, and most of the trial; happy to brainstorm with you for ideas.

maybe they are wanting to hide it for show car... so one sees their plate or and brackets... kinda like the vipers plate can be hidden in front.

I've seen them on sale for motorbikes so you can run from the po-pos if you need to.

ive seen this done on a corvette. the license plate swivled around and on the back said f*ck off if i remember correctly. the car was done by fishman (the audio guy). look online and i'm sure you can find the car. it's a yellow corvette, where a huge corvette logo on the back slides out and a tv slides up out of the logo. the whole car is nuts.

the guy turned his system up for me in front of an ihop (that he was eating at and rudely disturbed by me because i recognized the car and had to see it in action) and the manager walked outside and asked him to turn it down because everything inside the ihop was shaking. the car was awesome, to say the least.

That corvette sounds nice.

As far as the license-plate-switcher-thingy (whatever you call it)... it doesn't necessarily have to be for illegal purposes. You could have it say "Stop tailgating me" or "You lose" etc. instead of having a fake plate. Actually I think it might be fun to have. Let us know if you do end up making one. It is illegal of course to use it, since you'd be taking away your license plate temporarily... but then again so are a lot of the other mods people do... and so is speeding...

I like the idea of retractable front plate. It should be modified so that when you're stop or parked the plate is in full view and retracts in outa sight when the car is motion. This also cuts down on drag and free up the airflow to the intercooler/radiator.
I think it can be fabricated with a couple of actuators, hinges, springs.. Good thinking 007.

Try this link. There is one made for pickup trucks that could be use if the grille was removed.

I was thinking about using it myself.

i know what you are talking about. it is called electrostatic glass. it uses lcd technology to become clear when voltage is applied. they sell it for motorcycles and i have already tried to make a plate cover for my Z. 3M has the patent on the glass, and when i tried to order it they asked me a bunch of questions like what was it for, etc. if you get any further p.m. me and i would like to do this too. it runs off 12vdc. hit me up

You know, a hideaway license plate might not be a bad idea for the front (at least for those states requiring front plates). Cops pulls you over for a front plate violation, and then miraculously sees that it's actually there!

hmmm. photo red light intersections, while caught up in traffic, might not be so scary now.
