Well a Z meet won't be to different. All car enthusiast are a little weird. I mean come on we spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on our cars, take pictures, wash and wax almost weekly and spend alot of time thinking about cars. As for the young part, being 16, you probably would be the youngest. Don't let that detter you though. Most car guys can respect a girl that appreciates cars.

As for taking car of a black car, it is a biatch and half. All part of the fun though. Especially if you use Zaino. I've got about 20coats on the Fairlady. Dr Bonz must have a hundred by now.

In terms of mods, look into a Hotchkis setup for suspension. Good performance for everyday driving that won't break the bank. JWT Popcharger is good bang for buck. Other than that, save your grand for tires and unexpected things.

No reason to hate on people whose parents want to get them something nice.

You're absolutely right. When I was 16, I wanted a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am GT. I felt the body styling, the engine, the sleek-ness of a 2 door was exactly what I wanted, and that was being modest. What did I get? A 94 Grand Am SE! With 124,000 miles on it! It was SO close to what I wanted, yet so so far in my opinion. It was devastating, but I eventually purchased EXACTLY what I wanted (again, only at that time) soon enough. Now obviously things are different as I want something different, and I will go my same route and get it myself with no help.

Theres nothing wrong with her having help from her parents. Its the fact that, 1) what exactly makes her a perfect driver who deserves to learn how to drive in an amazing $27k + vehicle? She's going to learn one thing, so far SO good, parents will take care of everything. 2) What do we always see on TV? Kids who get into accidents with cars that mommy and daddy bought them, cars that should never have ever even been in the hands of kids this young with no common sense, no sense of logic, and no sense of experience or realization of what the car is really capable. 3) I'll bet her parents feel atleast she has a job, so she can pay the gas money. Yet, she's willing to take her minimum wage and mod the car? Sweetie..its a beautiful machine, don't ruin it with your foofy pink feather ruffled scrunchy hair ties and cheap 12volt plug-in neons. Learn how to put the car in gear and drive down the street before you make it any more different.

Kay, take it however way you want, but you HAVE to expect it. If you don't hear it from me, you're going to hear it from someone else. I rarely take the opportunity to do the honors, but I couldn't help it. A drivers license is a Priviledge, NOT A RIGHT.

Drivers license: $110 (classes and registration)
Sweet 16 Birthday Gift: $27,000
Minimum wage job: $6.25/a hour
Having a spoiled brat tell a grown *** man he's ignorant: Priceless

(Keep in mind, my sister is the perfect, stereotypical, retarded 16 year old girl as well. And she can't drive for **** -- her car doesn't even have a radio in it!! How's that for a distraction at the wheel..no tunes, complete attention on the road...oh really..?)

Threads like this bother me. People can't let a kid enjoy the experience of owning a Z. I just got my 04 Touring last week for my 17th birthday and I have been terrified to post pictures or anything regarding the car in fear of the comments certain people like to make.

Thanks.

btw I got PPW to.

Roger, like I told Kay, you'd have to expect it, regardless.

I'm not hating on her, and i'm not going to hate on you. If you were to be like:

"Hey, I just got my Z, parents got it as a birthday gift. Here's some pictures!" I'd be happy for you. I'd still be amazed, and still be jealous you had something that sweet at such a young age, but regardless it all depends on the person. Instead, she:

1) Wants to modify a car that already lists at $27k
2) Only gets paid minimum wage - which means she either baby-sits or works at the local Dairy Queen/Panera Bread shop and wants to either make the car "cuter" or "faster", neither of which are necessary and completely useless to someone her age.
3) I strongly disagree with getting a new car right from the get-go as a first car. Its a bit spoiled, a bit unnecessary, yet completely the parents fault if anything ever does go wrong. So be it, she's fortunate to get an opportunity like this at her age, so are you. Just be grateful, thats all. Theres a huge difference. Respect in life is always earned. I don't HAVE to respect you if I don't want, but I will respect the fact that even though you may be 17, you still sound like a semi-decent/half-way responsible person (hell I still don't even know THAT for a fact, but you don't need to prove that to anyone but yourself) who atleast appreciates the idea that your parents are showering you with a mighty expensive vehicle with more than enough power and punch to last you forever (I recently fell in love with the Z, and cannot stop my obsession..unfortunately things arn't looking too practical if I buy it, so I have to wait for the house to be purchased first)

Congrats on the Z. There are several younger Z owners on the boards...and lot of people who aren't happy with them. I'm only 19 but would definitely agree on one thing, don't get ahead of yourself with modding. I've drooled over the Z for going on 2 1/2 years, I've got a 13 page parts/prices file, and I'm still deciding on the exact plan for the Z (don't worry, I'm sure I'm at worst mid-pack obssesive on the forums). And please, if you don't listen to anything else...don't kill yourself in it. We'd all be sad, you're parents would feel responsible, and our insurance would look less happily on the Z.

jk on that last part, one more thing, AT or MT?

I agree, and congrats on the z... haha... a 30 grand car isn't "holy ****" I don't see why people are making a big deal about it...

1.)Actually, I don't need my job for the money... I just wanted to get that stepping stone so when i can have a decent job it shows that I have more experience. I also work in a law firm filing papers and whatnot, so it's an easy job.
2.) I told my parents I would have settled with a scion tc.... but they said no we don't want you having a four seater, it's more of a chance for you to haul your friends around... and they sure as hell wasn't going to get me a miata... so yeah... that's how I ended up with a Z....
3.) All hate and bitterness comes from jealousy... you sound very bitter in your response, and I do feel hostility out of it... I have what you wanted... so don't give me that ******** about being modest and what not...
4.) you don't need to respect me... I don't care.
5.) and don't chu talk about my momma!! or dad for that fact... --- it wouldn't be their fault if anything happend to me, and I know I'm not invincible, but I know i'm atleast responsible.
6.) I like the fact that I'm younger than most of the Z owners...

Wow... that's the best advice I've gotten yet... I'll just wait a little while and make a plan... lol and I won't kill myself in it... If I die in my car it'll be by some other dumbass.... that my parents will sue after I'm dead... haha

IMO - enjoy the car. I doesn't matter if you are 16 or 90. Drive safe. Don't do anything dumb. As far as mods... I look at them everyday, I just convince myself to wait until I have the money to do more *then I catch myself looking again 10 minutes later*

Where in Orlando are you at?

just enjoy your life and be safe. what she or her family thinks is their business. I personally think it really seems disrespectful how some of you "imply" that her parents might be making bad choices for their own daughter. Of course this is the internet and a free country, but at some point, personal ethics may kick in and some things may be left unsaid. Those are just YOUR OPINIONS...much like which one's better, a Z or a G? As long as she is happy, we should welcome the new addition to our boards.

Kim, We are all knowledgeable people here. Each person here has specialties as well as deficiencies. That's why we gather here to promote our passion and share our knowledge. As long as you know that none of them mean any harm or disrespect, you will soon find out they are actually very nice and knowledgeable people that can help you during your times of need (with the Z of course).

Anyways have fun and welcome to the forum.

Alex

Iam only 17 and i got my car when i was 16... but from the day i turned 16 i was looking at Zs.. and waited about a year till right before i turned 17 to get the Z... well i spent all that time looking at possible mods to buy, and different routes to go... give it the 2nd day i had my car, i went to the shop and put in the test pipes, and bought the intake... I understand where some people say to wait a bit to mod, i think i should have waited ATLEAST a monht, get use to it stock, then slowly start to mod. If you still are unsure of how to do your mods, this is what i did/am going to do.
Few bolt on performance first
Intake, Exhaust, Test pipes, Plenum, Pulleys.
Then do some cosmetic stuff, body kit, spoiler, wheels.
Then go to FI, APS TT.

Thats my personal route. Its good to set a goal for yourself because gives you plans on what to do. Just remember, dont go cheap on the car, its a expensive car so treat it the best! Oh and dont mind the people mad at you cause your 16 and with a Z. They are just giving you a hard time, and dont want you to get hurt in a fast car... thats all. Becareful, enjoy it, and this car is fairly low... so watch out in it, hills, big speed bumps, and steep driveways are your worst enemy.

Now any pictures yet?!!!

My view....

life is short, enjoy it.

But take nothing for granted, because it might not be here tomorrow.

sounds corny, but its the truth. 16 or 60, owning (or having someone give you) a fancy car says nothing about your integrity or worth as a human being, find that for yourself, and help all others to the same path.

and that, young grasshoppers, is the true meaning to life, not aquiring..stuff.

drive safe all.
