Did you wire them into your high beams? As your probably aware, the Canadian cars (with DRL) send reduced positive voltage to the high beams when the low beams are off. What happends when you switch to high beams?

I had installed aftermarket HID's on my old car and had the same problem, but what it was was the HID ballasts were not mounted securely enough and they were touching metal and completing the circuit, and keeping them on constantly, do not know if this helps but good luck.
