As for the people that like 8000k, me, it's done for an exotic look. When I used the high beams on my magnum, I couldn't tell they were on, that's how bright those 8000k bulbs were. 4300 is brighter then 8000k, much much brighter.
the little ceramic tube that covers the return wire should be on the bottom side *under* the bulb, not on top. Make sure you got the right bulb too, D2S and D2R have different notches.
