Default Some Emblem Fun :)

I hate that chunky old Nissan emblem on the back so I widdled it off with some floss hehe Flossed the Z off the 350Z emblem as well.

Here's something I'm experimenting with... I don't think it looks great (not smoothly painted), however, it's a start to what I want...

Anyone know how to get a smooth painted surface with the touch up paint???

really fine sand paper, prob 400s. After sanding and smoothing it, you may want to spray it with coats of clear coat paint to give it the shine.

Awesome! I guess that makes sense. I think I've got some hobby paint clear coat as well...

It's gonna be pretty cool

You've actually debadged your rear end? I have yet to see a LeMans like that -- let's see it!

Default I thought the rear badges had holes under them?

I thought some of the rear badges had mounting holes.

Do they?

What did you do about the holes?

Pictures will be posted on Saturday some time.

As far as debadging... definitely did. I couldn't take that huge Nissan emblem. The nissan emblem did have two holes under it. I don't want the back to be covered with Z's so I decided to remove the Z from the 350Z emblem. I may possibly replace that with a "FAIRLADY" emblem in the future. 350 by it self looks a bit out of place.

Products needed:

1. Z side emblem from Courtesy Nissan
2. Dremel Tool (not necessary but EXTREMELY helpful)
3. 3M Heavy double sided adhesive
4. PATIENCE

Process for prepping the emblem

Recieved brand new side badge emblem from Courtesy Nissan

1. Remove back adhesive and wash emblem
2. took sanding tool and put on Dremel and sanded down bottom of emblem so it's flush (the side badge is a raised emblem naturally to fit into the indented space on the side of the Z).
3. Used wire tool on Dremel to remove all black paint around the brushed aluminum Z on the emblem.
4. Washed emblem and dried
5. Applied coat of touchup paint to emblem around the Z
6. wet sanded (400 grit) and smoothed out bumpy paint
7. washed emblem
8. applied clear coat and let dry
9. apply double sided tape to back of emblem and cut out pattern
10. apply to car... smile and cheer

(pictures will follow on Saturday)

UPDATE for all It's been a while...

NOTE TO SELF...USE DRYING AGENT FOR TOUCH UP PAINT!

GOOD GAWD that oil base paint takes For-EV-E-RRR to dry!!!

It's been a week and the stuff is still a bit tacky. I obviously cannot sand it down yet but hey... it looks pretty cool sittin' there!

Seriously though, oil base paint is a *****. I'll get something up just as soon as this stuff dries. I'd love to get to sanding. My poor Z has been sitting without a badge and two holes.
