Everybody and their mom is going to be using them soon. I've had LED tailights on my boat trailer for the past few years because they don't heat up and pop when backing into the water. I can't wait to see LED headlights.

They're also on semi-tractors and trailers. And, on traffic signal lights. I don't think it's that big of a deal. Lighting technology is evolving and to me it is a natural order of things. One day, regular bulbs will be artifacts of history.

Soon or later most cars will adapt LED lights just the fact that
it it brighter and lights up faster than traditional bulbs.

I agree. I've always associated the LED tails with cheaper cars. Wasn't there some Kia with LED tails a couple of years ago? Anyway, LED looks cheap to me and I was sad to see them on the Z.

The beauty of it all is that if you don't like the LEDs on the newer Z's, you can always retro-fit the originals... and vice versa for the people who prefer the LEDs but have a Z without them. They are a cheap mod and available in all kinds of cool styles now.

If you want unique tail lights on your Z, there is certainly no shortage of them in the aftermarket. That always rocks.

Hi,
LEDs are here and will be more evident each year. They use less power, allow for greater stopping distance (~25 feet at 60mph) and offer auto lighting designers a lot more creative flexibility. (disclaimer: I work for an LED manufacturer, including those on the 06Z). You will see designs that both feature and disguise the fact that LEDs are being used. Cadillac has used LEDs in its taillights for years with a very smooth appearance, no points of light.

On some cars, 21W of conventional lighting is being replaced by as little as 3-4W of LEDs.

BTW, the light output from all exterior lighting apps is highly regulated for color, brightness and viewing angles, etc. and the rules differ by country.

You will see daytime running lights (probably in Europe first) and headlamps in market next year ( high and low beam on the Audi R8 ). These applications will use Power LEDs that put out 10-100 times more light (in white) that those used in most taillamps today.

That's some great reasoning there. Kia cars have LEDs therefore LEDs must look cheap. Do you not realize that the two bulb system in the taillights of 03-05 Zs is quite dim? My ford escort has brighter taillights.

This is interesting because I've noticed that the Lexus IS has LEDs but it's disguised as well..I say what's the point? Personally I love the look of LEDs
(thanks in part to the G35-M35) but I see there are some that feel otherwise.
I'll just be happy with my car and say "be damned" to the rest..lol..

Start smashing every LED tail car you see parked anywhere. That's what I do. Screw them bastards. They buy it, I fry it.

And don't even get me started on all those tinted windows out there today...

Is is called "association." I think I mentioned that exact word in my post. Maybe you just missed that. "Guilt by association" is not my reasoning, but a line of reasoning that was accepted for thousands of years before my birth. It seems to be new to you.

I don't like bright tail lights. I'd smoke them even darker before wanting them to be brighter.

Other things I associate with LEDs:

1. Those cheap red LED watches from the 70's.
2. Lite Brite play sets
3. cheap electronics
4. Those old red LEDs on the previous generation of radar detectors

You see, in psychological studies we learn that our current preferences are a result of associations with past experiences. We are basically a sum of our past perceptions. You are not going to use "reason" to change my personal taste or preferences, because aesthetics is subjective and not dependent on emperical data or logical reasoning based upon watts.

Aesthetics are subjective. I can't believe anyone would try to argue with someone's opinion on the internet. I'm glad I didn't tell you my favorite color, or that may have started a whole new thread.
