I've been using LED turnsignals for nearly a year and I've come to realize that they're extremely difficult to see during the daytime. Sure they're bright as hell during the night, but when it's bright out, all you see is that tiny blinking dot. I'm seriously considering switching to normal (though white, not amber) bulbs. Which ones should I be looking at?

I have the Polarg Visuals on my car. And they have been working well for over 1 year. I have the hyper white bulbs for my front turn signals. I have used LED's but they always went bad after a few months. There are a lot of bulb brands out there. And everyone has there own preference.

 

So are regular white bulbs brighter than LED in the daytime?

 

I'd stick w/ a regular bulb since it will be reflected and an LED would not be. Nothing wrong with the oem bulbs.

 

So is that why regular bulbs are brighter in the daytime (presuming that I'm not imagining this)? Regular bulb makes the entire reflective surface light up and LED doesn't?

 

Regular bulbs have a higher viewing angle (~360 degrees) They radiate light in every direction. LED's are generally very directional. Most common LED's are anywhere from 15-30 degrees. You can get LED's with higher viewing angles (70-120 degrees), but they generally cost more. That is why regular bulbs light up the entire surface while LED's do not.

As for the regular bulbs being brighter in the day, I'm guessing that is because all of the energy is focused at the filament of the bulb, so it is more intense. LED light is generally spread across multiple LED's, so each individual one is dimmer compared to a single regular bulb.

 

Alright, so where do I buy good, clear turn signal bulbs?
