Default Vented hood rant

For all the hoods available for the Z, why are there none that have tastefully done vents toward the REAR of the hood like you see on Aston Martins, the new M3, etc? They'd be more effective for heat removal there and I think it'd look great.

Take this hood for example (Vis GTC):

Now just move the vents further back to the position I described above, still keeping them in line with the hood character lines... any photoshop guys want to try it?

Paint the hood body color and leave the vents CF and you have one bad@ss hood, IMO.

Yes, I'm familiar with the Seibon TS. I'm referring to smaller, more subtle vents, not something that stretches out over half the hood, but I guess I should have clarified.

Compare:

Vis GTC:

With vents placed toward the rear... this is the hood I want right here (if only it existed...):

I'm sorry but I think those style vents would like like **** on the Zed... It even looks crap on the M3.. They should remove or redesign them.

Well the vents on each particular hood are usually designed with that particular car in mind. Just cause vents in the rear work best on an Aston, doesn't mean that would be best for the Z. If you don't like what's currently out there, you can always have a bodyshop do some custom work on an FRP or CF OEM style hood.

The only hood that I know of with a vent in the rear is the Zerosun and Cwest. Personally, the best hood functionally that I have ever seen/used so far is the Cwest. The VIS/Seibon TS one is nice looking, but the vents are placed all wrong and not based on any hood ever actually made. The Veilside design actually has some good vent design as well as the Do Luck. The Do Luck vents to the rear, you just don't see the vent exposed unless you're sitting inside the car.

^ True, different hood/vents are made for different purposes and some are more functional than others (I doubt very much that a big vent right over the intake is the best place on the Z...). As a heat removal devcie, it stands to reason that the most effective place for vents would be at the highest point of hot air accumulation under the hood, which would be toward the rear (this has been discussed before).

I'm sure the C-West hood works very well (and looks great on your car; saw it at HB), but I'm looking for something more subtle, like the Vis GTC that I PS'd above. (Is that hood available in FRP?)

I had thought about something custom along the lines of a CF louvered vent "drop-in" that you would just cut the hole out for in the stock hood and insert it, but that would require someone capable of fabricating such items and would likely be very expensive.

I'm sure I'll choose one of the existing hoods to settle for eventually; this was more of a rant than anything and I just wish there were more options along different lines, rather than a bunch of hoods with diff. shaped vents all in the same area.

I'm not saying vents of that style; I mean vents of that general size and in that location (see the VIS I PS'd above).

i did one where the vents were over the sides, which i'm a huge fan of...this leaves the bulk of the hood wide open, so it'd probably look pretty good with the scoop from the VT, but alas, my chopping skills aren't quite THAT good

That hood would do absolutely nothing for cooling

Yeah, not feeling that rendition at all, aesthetically. Functionally, it'd be useless, as where you placed them, the vents are right over the battery and master cylinder compartments, which are sealed off from the engine bay area.

i'm well aware they would serve little purpose for cooling, but i like the look of vents that are out to the sides, similar to the mercedes DTM models, or the viper hood...
