I believe the 06-07 have a rubberized coating on the handles. I think the 03-05 are just plastic. It just might be your body chemistry. Just take it to another dealer. It does look like chemical damage. Especially on the shifter.

do you happen to use hand cream on daily basis and let it get on to everything you touch?? when i worked for Acura, had a lot of black(why i dont know but have yet to see a white person use that much cream on probably hourly basis) customers complain that their leather would deform shrink and just turn to crap as well as some plastic finish looked bit like your volume ****. In the end they had their way b/c acura will do just about anything to make their customer happy. Btw above was just an observation don't start that "omg thats racist bs".

I'm glad to hear Nissan changed from the plastic to the rubber. Long ago I worked valet and noticed the newer shape Rang Rover had a rubber finish all over the car and I would see a lot of them where the rubber was simply peeling off. I always thought how pissed I would be to buy a 60k SUV only to have the finish inside start peeling off. Now I'm dealing with the same rubbery finish.

As far as the hand lotion, I can attest to the fact that I would valet cars where there was sooo much lotion/baby oil or something all over the steering wheel and door handle and yes they were all black too. May be an old school remedy for dry skin.

You have some serious issues there.
I don't think Nissan is going to help you
out either. It seems that you are
the one and only person on this forum, and
possibly the world with this problem.
I truly hope Nissan replaces that for you,
but I highly doubt it.

If you leave the windows open all the time, who knows what enters and leaves when you park it. Or do you close it up and lock it when you park it?

Thing is, regardless if it is considered normal wear and tear or not, they definitely look like some kind of scratch. Even some kind of solvent would most likely not leave that type of pattern. Does anyone else drive the car? Do they wear rings. I mean, they are in all the spots rings would hit (except the shifter but I have seen people who actually grip the shaft of the shifter rather than palm the top).

Not saying if nissan should or shouldn't cover that (because I really don't know) but something is definitely scratching it somehow even if you are unaware of what it may be. If nobody else drives it and you can't figure out what is causing the scratches, maybe someone is driving the car without you knowing.

Do you hae children, roomates, etc?

No, no one drives my car but me. I first noticed the dash compartment was being scratch when I would open it. It does not scratch every time I open it and I do open it several times a day. I'm sure the door handle has been scratching for awhile but never really noticed. After I noticed the handle I started looking around and what really upset me was the steering wheel and the shifter because those spots are never touched.
Funny how my 18 y/o 1990 300ZX has better quality finish than my 30k 06' Z.
I love my car, interior and exterior alike I'm just disappointed in the quality of that rubber finish.....oh yeah I would have been nice if the 350Z were faster that the 300ZXTT but that's a whole other thread

OP: How long did you personally own the 1990 ZX? Seems like we're on to something.

Guys, I work at this dealership and we didn't believe the OP. Seriously, how can this be "normal" wear and tear? Anyways, we installed some hidden cameras to get to the bottom of this, unorthodox, but here is the shocking footage:

cut your damn fingernails & quit trying to tell us "the story" only you really know what is causing this & I feel like you are keeping that to yourself.
