Default Progress on my Satin/flat Black Paint Job

Alright here's the scoop for you guys that are interested about this paint job.

one, its beginning to be a lot more difficult than expected. The reason being is because the first paint that i got was semi-flat black but with no clear coat instead they added a pint of hardener, basically just mix the paint and coat together. But i didn't want that

So now, we got a new paint and instead of the mixing of the hardener b.s. we found that there's a flatening agent that you add to the clear coat to make it flat. So that's the way we're going about it now with the paint.

The only thing that sucks about that, is most people who know about painting, you know that when you do a paint job your always going to get trash, but with any normal paint job you can just buff it out. Well since this is satin black flat in color, you can't buff it out if you do you basically take away from the flat look. So what you have to do is Spray it, and if you get any trash you just have to re-sand it and than respray and just pray it comes out smoothley.

kinda tests the painters abilities a little bit so a headache it is.

So i went by today to go check on the progress of the car

the doors, hood, and trunk are off and the insides of the these have just been painted. That was around 12 o'clock today, and he said around 3 pm the car was going in there for the paint job as well.

Well from my understanding the car should be ready for pick up on thursday, no later than friday this week. Only thing that sucks is that i ordered an INGS LX trunk spoiler from bulletproof automotive.com and is coming from japan, so that wing shouldn't be in till the end of december. But the full cwest lip kit is in and prepped for painting as well, everything but the front lip is frp, and the front lip being carbonfiber. Sorry alex i copied alyssa and decided to keep the center of the lip carbonfiber and paint everything else.

But when the car gets done it goes straight to the audio shop for my 5% tint and my sound system. After that i'll post teaser pics for you guys, i'm kinda anxious and little nervous how this is going to look. I'll hopefully have teaser shots by the end of this week. once my wing comes in i'm putting my carbon fiber hood back on to complete this project.

I really can't wait, cars been in the shop since october waiting for parts. Thanks again andrew @bulletproofautomotive.com

just a question. When you paint your entire car, they have to remove the parts like that? They have to take off the doors, hatch, gas lid etc? I thought they just did it as is, but i didnt know anything bout painting.

if you are changing the color that is the proper way to do things. If you didn't you couldn't paint everything and something would not look right.

Yes thas correct they wana do the job right so they're not gonna miss any crack or crevis lol but the reason is so they can paint the door jams and the inside of the trunk and inside of the hood. But the paint was soo much of a headache that I was contemplating on actually changing the choice of color, but couldn't do that, I'm going alone with this to the end lol....

Just clean the booth and hose it before you spray and you'll have hardly any trash.

+1

In a proper ventilating paint booth, you can spray water on teh ground just as an extra precaution. You should hardly get any trash/fisheyes.

i have a silverstone Z but i had been looking for a Lemans Z. I settled on a silverstone because there were absolutely none in my area. I want it to be a Lemans shade of orange so im contemplating painting it.
