Default Gas tank

I have a 2004 350z and I noticed that the gas tank wasn't as reliable as I would want it (the meter jumps up and down). I never really know how much gas I got in the tank. It's usually 1/4 light or over than it reads... Any ideas why it might do this?

Gas tank problem or fuel meter issue?? The gas tank just holds fuel in it. It's probably an electrical/fuel gauge problem. See your auto electrical mechanic, dude.

i thought it was just my car, but yeah i notice that too
the gas meter tend to drop a bit lower than usual when the car is cold in the morning and rises just a little when the car heats up a bit

i notice this when i start my car in the morning and when i start my car in the afternoon

my guess is the gas meter on the Z is sensitive lol

I have an 05. Gas meter and digital read out displays lower than normal numbers as well when the car is cold. After 5 minutes of driving its back up to where it was when I turned the car of last time. Confusing. yes.

Test the float/sending unit from the tank. If that checks out, check the wiring from the sending unit to the dash.

Cars break - even "expensive sports cars". Nothing lasts forever.
