There is a very very small fast fade...but If you want the nice slow fade, its gets more complicated

Looks like these are the LEDs I would need.

So I will be doing a real DIY on this eventually. Going to get all the parts I need first.

Nah, stay away from those cheap LEDs. Search for name brands like Phillip Lumiled,Agilent HP, or even Cree. Those topbright LEDs are garbage(experience), they will start flashing and eventuallly burn out even if you under drive them below their specs.
