Default 2006/2007 Passenger airbag deactivation for child seat?

Hello,

sorry if this is a FAQ, I searched but could not find any info on this.

Has anyone tested the passenger air bag deactivation on the 2006 - 2008 350zs? They have it but I don't know if they work or not. Are they weight senstive?

I'm considering buying a 2006/2007 350z I have an occasional need to use it to transport a child.

Thanks

There's a way your Nissan dealer service people can verify the status of the airbag system. It's in the 2007 service manual on page SRS-7. The pertinent part:

"In case of customer concern, CONSULT-ll can be used to confirm the passenger air bag status (readiness)."

That's followed by a table of various scenarios and the correct indication for each. One of the scenarios is for when the passenger does not meet Occupant Classification System specifications for passenger air bag activation. That implies the system is weight-sensitive.

The 2006.5 and beyond Zs have the intelligent (NISSAN Advanced Air
Bag System) airbags, so you shouldn't have to worry about carrying a child.

As far as "anyone testing it", do you mean getting in an accident with a child onboard?

No by testing I meant, does it actually de-activate when you have a child in there.

thanks everyone.

i dont see why its such a bad idea to transport a child. we've all seen photos from the wrecks on here. the passenger compartment holds up better than almost any car ive seen.
