Really? People have broken them???? That's pretty crazy. I didn't know that had happened. The metal looks pretty stout underneath. At least like it could handle breaking some lock-tite loose.
My apologies.

This could have been the **** starting to turn loose, but i didnt want to end up breaking anything. Does anyone know if that cracking sound is supposed to happen, or do you really just have to go ahead and apply that much force? I dont really want to ruin my OEM shifter, but if its gotta go, its gotta go, lol.
Let me know what you guys think.
thanks

You should have a vise grip with an inner tube wrapped around the base of the shaft to hold the bottom steady. DON'T OVERTIGHTEN!! A firm grip is all that is needed. It might take a while but keep turning counterclockwise !!

Just did mine on my 03 Touring 6speed. Was a little nervous at first, but used the vise grips with rubber bands for the main shaft and a strap wrench on the oem shift ****. Worked perfectly. Good luck!
